View Full Version : Weird genetic mutations?

Okay, I didn't know where else I could ask for clarification on this, but I think I'm having "weird genetic mutations" in my game. Maybe some of you had experienced similar situations and can tell me if this is normal or maybe a weird bug.

I've only experienced this with this one family in Twinbrook, which seams to have a tendency to have "albino" kids.

When I instaled ambitions, I decided to try out the Twinbrook hood. I did not pick any of the existing families, instead I made a young adult female sim in CAS and placed her in a started house.
Eventually she fell in love with Shark from the Racket family and the two started to date (I had no idea of the story behind twinbrook and its sims by then, I only found out he was a womanizer and heir of a "mafia" empire later on after they got married, lol)
Anyway, so they got married and moved into a bigger house, and eventually they decided to start a family..

So this is the Racket couple in my game:

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/wormwoodz/sims/RacketCouple.jpg

This is my CAS made sim Jessica Racket, she has light blue eyes, blonde hair and freckles.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/wormwoodz/sims/JessicaRacket.jpg

This you may already know from pre-made sims family, Shark Racket. For those who don't, here's a close up for genetic comparison. He has brown hair and light green eyes.
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/wormwoodz/sims/SharkRacket.jpg

And now for their strange children...

Lucian Racket, strangely, was born with white hair and light grey eyes. Even his roots and eyebrows are grey.
He was also born with the trait evil, which is a trait his great grandparents share.. even weirder.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/wormwoodz/sims/LucianRacket.jpg

So I figured, maybe the game had some "genetic mutation" programing and this child was born with albino characteristics. I was curious and looking forward to their second offspring, Leanne Racket, which did not came out all "albino" but...

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g162/wormwoodz/sims/LeanneRacket.jpg

She has "natural" brown hair with white tips, and shares her brother's light grey eyes. Kinda freaky...

I DID NOT, under any circunstance, tweak their haircolors. This is the hair they were born with. I did not tweak the colors of their parents' hair either.

Now, I looked around the internet and "researched" sims 3 genetic system. So as far as I understand, sims are born with genetic traits from both their parents, and a small chance from grandparents. Great grandparents would then be excluded from the list. Also, the current sim's eye/hair color is considered "genetic", even if it's blue/green/pink etc..

I took a look at the Racket family. If I recall, Silver Racket (Shark's mom) had brown hair. I don't remember Dennis, his father. So how come children in this family seam to have a white hair "dominant gene"?
And why is Lucian evil, and Leanne nice?
Can sims get genetic traits from their great-grandparents? (maybe the Racket family has some white haired people in their gene tree?)
Also, does the game pick hair color, roots and tips from different genetic samples? (that could perhaps explain Leanne's hair)

Most of the Rackets in my game are now elders, except Shark's siblings and their spouses. It's a freaking large family.
I got this wild theory maybe the game chooses genetics "at random" from the current family tree, and their current hair color. Including grey and white (elderly) in this case..

Or maybe, the Racket pre-made family simply has "bugged" genetics and I can't seam to have normal children with this couple.

I'm pondering trying for the third, just out of curiosity.. but I'd have to get a bigger house.

Also, for some reason, Marigold Racket never dies. I don't mean this in a sadistic way, but I'm really starting to think I have some bugs in this savegame. I know in sims 3 the exact moment of death is a bit random, but I swear it's been "ages" since she hit the average life span limit. I switched households to check on her, thinking maybe the age bar had bugged and reseted somehow, but no. I also noticed she has maxed out her athletics and never fulfiled her lifetime wish. But c'mon! How long can a sim go on like that? Her husband passed away when Lucian was just a baby!

NOTE: I do not have any mods, sliders, etc.. in my game, and VERY SCARCE third party custom content. I had the "girl doll dressed" issue and lost one of my favorite families back then. The only things I have instaled that did not come with the game and EPs now are store content and some Dr. Pepper stuff.

I really hope this save is not bugged, I really like this family :s

I think Twinbrook in general is kind of buggy. I know I've had several sims where if I send them into CAS to change their outfits, the game would crash. I actually had that issue with Marigold Racket, so I just used testingcheats to age transition so she'd die. I know I've read about other people having weird glitches happen in Twinbrook as well. I'm currently playing Barnacle Bay until LN comes out, then I'll just play Bridgeport.

It's as I feared then :(
A pity, this was my favorite town so far, and from the previews I've seen of Bridgeport I think it will continue to be for some time.
I had more crashed and issues with Sunset Valley than Twinbrook, everything was going smooth so far. I guess I'll try to keep playing with this family for some generations, and edit the bug out for future generations.

Thanks for the Marigold tip, I'll do that!

I'm wondering, is the "whole town" bugged? or just the sims/families?
Let's say, if in the future I plan to play this neighbourhood again from scratch with a new family, can I edit and remove all families that come with it (replacing them with CAS created ones)?

Do TS3 sims only pass their own hair and eye genes to their children or can they pass their parents' genes on like they did in TS2? If so, the silver hair (and probably the brown and silver hair) is probably from Shark's parents. IIRC, his mom has silver/platinum hair (and doesn't his dad have brown hair with silver/gray highlights?).

CAS-created sim-elders have their grayed hair as "genetic" haircolors, and when sims inherit them, they can inherit the graying and partially-graying colors as if they were proper genetic colors, due to the fact that the Sims 3 genetic engine for hair color basically doesn't exist. Sim-elders that age in-game use a different mechanism to become gray, and therefore, are not affected.

I've read somewhere that sims CAN have their grandparents genetics, but these "genes" are not carried over by their parents -the game supossedly has a small percentage chance of copying the genetics of grandparents from the family tree (even if the child was adopted).

My question here would be, is the current elderly grey hair considered "gentic"?
Silver Racket had brown hair when she was an adult. In my game she now is an elder, but it was not her "natural" haircolor. I am not sure about the father, but I think he had brown hair too.

If this is true game programing wise, then it's a shame because all children with living elderly grandparents will have a chance to carry on white/grey genetic hair - doesn't make much sense :s

Elder grey hair is not genetic. Yumi Sekemoto (if you age her down) has icky greenish brown hair, and every time I've had a sim marry and have children with Leighton Sekemoto, they randomly get her sucky hair color.

Ah, then she's not the source of the hair genetics (Silver must have already been an elder the first time I'd seen her, for some reason I thought that was her natural hair color). The game will pull random hair colors sometimes instead of using the parents' genes. I don't know if it pulls from player-created colors as well, but you might check to see if you have those hair color schemes saved in CAS.

Okay, now I know for sure this neighbourhood is bugged (or my save).

I went on playing for a while to see how it went.
I play with story progression mode on, now... most of my town sims were elders and they eventually start to die, the population has to rejuvenate yada yada yada.

Well apparently, now the game is not adding new sims to the hood to make up for the current deaths. No imigration, no new babies, nothing! Which means by the end of this generation Twinbrook will be a "ghost town".

I never had this problem in Sunsetvalley or other hoods I played for a few generations with story progression. So definitely, either my save is bugged or, like someone suggested, the whole town is by default.

Oh well.. :/

Thank you for the tips and help. It seams this hood is doomed.

Use Twallan's Story Progression (http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=4500.0).

For the hair, don't fret about it, just change it in a mirror.

Have you seen Shark Racket's Mother Silver Racket? Her name is not just a name, this woman is literally silver with her frosted blonde hair. I think Shark's child looks a lot like Silver Racket and i have personally experienced the similar white hair jump in one of Shark's children.

Elder grey hair is not genetic.
It REALLY depends on how the Elder was generated. If the elder was generated in CAS and given special hair, then yes, it can wind up genetic. Also, some premade Adult sims are created with "partially aged" looks, and those hairs are ALWAYS treated as genetic.

Thanks Tj, I was trying to stay away from mods but I might give it a go, sometime after the next EP.
TS3 is fun to play, but the glitches and bugs drive me crazy sometimes.

I could have sworn her hair was brown (at least in my game, the way I remember). But now I just went and checked the sims wiki and luckly they had a profile pic.

I tried to check on earlier family pics, but can't seam to find one in my archives. It's possible I changed her hair color in my game without realizing it. *facepalm*
I remember I was having a lot of issues while visiting the Racket's household. Crashing, glitches and even the dreaded "disapearing SIMdrome". Silver had that problem, had to delete game cashes, eventually had move them out.

At least, there's some hope the family I play with is not glitched.

That makes sense.
A lot more that randomly assigned colored tips :S

It seams this generation fell on the ugly premade genetic hair end
