(I checked and couldn't find another place to put this, if it's in the wrong forum please move it)

Recently I encountered a problem with my Sims 3 account at thesims3.com which resulted in the EA store giving me a 20$ discount compensation coupon. This means that for the first time since The Sims (1) I can actually buy an expansion pack for my game! And that leaves me with a few questions, hopefully someone would be kind enough to answer.

I know that when reinstalling expansions you have to do it in a specific order, but can I install any expansion pack to the base-game if I don't have the others?
What I mean is, if I were to buy Ambitions would I need to have World Adventures previously installed? Or would having the latest base-game patch be enough?

Secondly, what expansion should I get? >o> Not a serious question really, but I'd like to hear a few opinions from you guys. :) I was thinking about getting Ambitions (if I don't need WA) because of the new town. Maybe I should just pre-order Late Night to get those extra bundles you get.

Yeah, you can have any combination, and as few or as many as you like.

Well, all you need installed for Expansion Packs is the Base Game. So, no, you don't ned WA for AMB. Well, it depends what you want.

World Adventures is a RPG-ish type where you can explore Egypt, China, and France. You collect relics and things of that nature. One of my favs. The Supernatural in this one are Mummies.

Ambitions is if you like adventure in a different way. You can see your sims in their NEW jobs, such as Firefighter, Ghost Hunter, and Stylist.

And the new one, Late Night. This one is all about the bug city, being a celebrity, and all that jazz. The supernatural in this one will be Vampires.

I have gotten previous expansion packs (for Sims and Sims 2) but not yet Sims 3. BUT if it's just like them, you can get any expansion pack you want without having to get the previous ones. For example, I got Pets before I got University and then I got Seasons on my Sims 2.

Also, I'd suggest Ambitions. It seems to be the most interesting in my opinion from what I've read. Try reading about them and then pick which one goes with your gaming style.

If its one or the other, then I'd recommend Ambitions, WA is almost a standalone game, wheras Ambitions gives your Sims more stuff to do within the existing neighbourhood structure

Out of all the EPs (including LN even though technically it's not out) WA is considered to be the least favorite by most people mainly because you don't use the features that it brings as much as you would the others (If you're in to exploring and RPGish playing then by all means disregard what I just said), it's hard because LN isn't out yet, however from what EA and others have reported LN is the most sandbox type EP yet, it includes various instruments and some other cool objects that might see more use. Ambitions is very good too, it's really just a matter of preference.

I would read about all of them and make my own decision, usually it just comes down to a matter of taste.

If Late Night ends up being even close to what they are pitching, I'd say that one. My advice is wait until next week and read what people who have gotten it have to say. If you absolutely must get one right now, Ambitions is put together better than WA
