View Full Version : Better Apartments?

Is Late Night really limited to these little one bedroom apartments?
I was hoping that once my celebrity level increased that I would have access to nicer high rises. Maybe I'm missing something? In fact, if there are large apartments in game but are already occupied by celebrities I would be happy to evict them so that I can maintain the lifestyle that I have become accustomed to.
I'm also seeing that people are having problems figuring out how to edit high rises. If anyone knows of a large high rise, regardless of how it looks, let me know.

There's a nice two-floor apartment with a swimming pool/hot tub(don't remember which, maybe both) that's already inhabited. I think it's also got 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, but I'm not sure. I don't know what the address is, though. :(

There is, however, a LOT of empty space in these towers. It's like a WA tomb. And there's only one family per high rise. Srsly. I am disappoint.

The Jones family live in a 2 bedroom apartment highrise. It's called one something.

One Leo Center 2br 2ba
If you re-do it it looks quite nice.

One controllable family? Or is it that you can't seem to 'ask to go inside' the other tenants apartments? Because in the apartment building I'm in, there's a neighbor behind every door, and more sims listed on the call box. My first day, and I had one pop out and ask my sim for money when she stood next to the elevator too long while I was looking around. Then I rang the bell at the door in the hallway that my apartment shares with the elevator, and made friends with the person who lives there.
It's going to take me a while to explore all of the available apartments, but I'm actually kind of excited about the way they used the WA room blackouts, implying that there's a LOT of space for us to tap into (at the expense of leaving no room for the other 'tenants'.)

I've been playing the Tenderlove household... three roomies in a pretty big 3br apt. I got two of em together and kicked one of the roomies out and now there's plenty of room, plus I could expand on that floor if I wanted to.
And yes, it's one CONTROLLABLE family per building, but each building also has public space (which you can modify as you please -- I've put some really nice shared facilities in mine) as well as other "virtual" tenants.

...as well as other "virtual" tenants.Do tell?
I am unable to locate the "Skip Floor Marker" in all the buildings, even using as many cheats as I know.
I would love to have more available apartments in each building, housing other not-controlled-by-me Sim families, but I can't seem to make that happen.
And if anyone knows how to build to the floor below in the pre-made highrises, I would really like to hear that too!

By virtual tenants, I mean the ones that skmt999 referred to. I've observed them in the premade buildings too, but I'm not sure what exactly generates em. I've been assuming it was a door connecting "public" space to "hidden" space.
The only method I'm aware of (not saying there aren't others ;) ) for accessing the "skip floor" marker is to remove floor tiles from the active floor, and delete it from above. That means it's relatively straightforward to expand downward, but not upward ;)

Even the 2 bedroom place is a closet compared to what my Sims usually live in. 3 people in an apartment? I usually have 8 and sometime a lot more when I use mods to remove the limit. Frankly, I want two full floors of 64x64 with no exterior limits or hot tub placing restrictions. Heck, I want the roof too so I can see my place immediately without having to mess with the camera too much. And I want my own private elevator to all three floors.
These limitations will eventually be lifted through mods or patches. I'm just surprised that Maxis was so small in their thinking.

I saw a three bedroom apartment, too. I can't remember its name but it's by the Villas (or something like that)

I'm mostly happy with this EP -the apartment area is where I'm unhappy. Having only one controllable family per apartment building is terrible. The only apartments left unoccupied in Bridgeport are one bedroom ones and there's literally no room anywhere in town to place down new buildings. There's no room for me to move in families, and no room for households full of roommates (realistic for young adults).
This sounds insanely difficult to program, but if anyway designs some mod making it possible to have more than one actual apartment unit per building, I will build them a shrine in my closet.

What the heck ? okay, I understand, it is your way of playing the game but you'Re asking way too much here.
This is late night, not appartment EP.
But I ca nhelp you. There's one appartment with 6 bedrooms, I didn'T visited it but I'm sure it's the bigest of all. It's occupied by a lot of sims and right now I don't know where exactly, but you'll find it easily. Just search the occupied appartments, they are bigger.

How is that asking way too much? Is it really out of the question to make the top couple of floors a single unit? Or the roof idea?
Are you basing your assessment on knowledge of a technical limitation or on a statement made by Maxis or are you just winging it here?
Frankly, the apartment thing is kind of a cool novelty right now and the views are amazing but if it comes down to having to put my wealthy sims in palace mansions instead, so be it.
Thanks for the heads up on the six bedroom. It is occupied by the Fangmann family near the water by Hogan's diner. Elevator is in the middle of a lobby surrounded by rooms, one of which has a mini coffin room in it. Tragically there is no hot tub and the building looks like it is 4 stories tall.
So we know that a multi-level place is possible and that one apartment can take up an entire floor with no other tenants on it. Make it possible to modify the exterior of an apartment and I am no longer out of my mind for my lofty requests.

You can edit the highrises and make the apartments larger with cheats. You can even use more floors by digging into the floors beneath the accessible ones and moving around the markers. It involves quite a bit of work though. I'm just trying it now for myself. Once you have access to the floor beneath the original, you should be able to place a hot tub too.

Popping in with a little note about editing appartments - The Slayer household (Sanguine Arms, 9378 Sterling Parkway) has the skip floor markers *above* the occupied appartment. I had to add the walls for the 2nd and 3rd levels and the floor for the 3rd, but I was able to turn Elvira Slayer's cramped 1 bedroom, 1bath into a comfy three story penthouse with hot tub and fireplace. I had to tweak the 3rd floor external walls a bit so they didn't look funky when viewing the appartment from map view but that was it.

It's on the left side of the screen, it runs around 130,000 simoleons. You have bedrooms not much room for anything else. Haven't used it so not sure how the expansion of the the apt would work. IE not sure if it takes up the entire top floor. I looked at it for my sim and was like "uhg a lot of work to customize". So I just expanded the one he's in now. Still too small though.

If you ctrl/shift click on such a door there is an option "make npc door" or something. This will make the game generate sims behind those door. Probably you need to enable testingcheats forst
