Just a random challenge I came up with. It's my first challenge, and hopefully, it's not too bad or too similar to other challenges
Overview:
Your Sim is a computer addict. For your Sim, your computer is your lifeblood, your obsession. So great is your Sim's obsession for computers, you hardly want to do anything apart from it.
But of course, that's not the case- you need money to support yourself, you start to get desolate from keeping everything to yourself, and you realize there's still much for you to learn. You don't want to part from your computer for to long, so what do you do? You ask yourself....
Steps:
1. Create a YA- Could be male or female
2. Your Sim must have the Computer Whiz trait. Genius, loner, and Hates the outdoors are recommended- but not necessary
3. Move your Sim to the cheapest house you can find. No merging households
4. Buy your Sim a computer (not laptop) and every other furnishing needed. You may use money cheat if your funds is not enough. After furnishing your home, set your money to $100 only
Rules:
1. Your Sim may only earn money from the computer (Hacking or Writing)
2. Your Sim may only meet and socialize with other Sim through online chat. Your Sim may only start calling/inviting over once they've become friends with the other Sim.
3. Hiring NPCs are allowed, but not recommended.
4. Your Sim may not go anywhere without computer- meaning that you may only visit the library.
5. No cheats, mods or hacks aside from the money cheats at the beginning of the game
Challenge is over when your Sim dies.
Scoring system:
+10 for every 1000 Simoleans you earn
+5 for every people you met Online
+50 for every friends you made
+10 learning a skill
+50 for every skill maximized
-10 for every acquaintances met in places other than the internet (including burglars, police, maids, etc)
-20 for every repossession
-10 for every Sim 'forgotten' (when a Sim disappears from your relationship list)
-5 for every time you get a lonely moodlet
-15 for every time you get a desolate moodlet
-20 every time your computer breaks
.. hope you like it :beer:

Would we be allowed to upgrade the computer to unbreakable if our handiness was high enough?

Sure. Why not? :)

Ok, starting this one!
My sim's name is Lowne Leigh and she lives in Twinbrook, at the Watershed.
She is a Computer Whiz, Genius, Loner,a Bookworm, and hates the Outdoors. Her goal is to become a professional writer.
I chose not to use any money cheats. I am playing a normal lifespan.
My score so far:
Status - Incomplete
0 = +10 for every 1000 Simoleans you earn
30 = +5 for every people you met Online (Gwayne & Skeet Bayless, Marigold & Max Racket, Eva & Shamus Drudge)
50 = +50 for every friends you made (Gwayne)
40 = +10 learning a skill (cooking, writing, handiness, logic)
0 = +50 for every skill maximized
0 = -10 for every acquaintances met in places other than the internet
0 = -20 for every repossession
0 = -10 for every Sim 'forgotten'
0 = -5 for every time you get a lonely moodlet
0 = -15 for every time you get a desolate moodlet
-20 = -20 every time your computer breaks
100 = Total

Are we allowed to buy groceries? I am assuming we are not for now. I am going to the library to read about gardening and then will plant the free seeds you get with the first gardening level and will live off of those veggies and fish unless you tell us different.
Well, for some reason the library in this town has no skill books :(

You shouldn't need to buy them or grow them. And what kind of computer nerd gardens and/or fishes? If you don't have the ingredients, your fridge will charge you for them. You can cook anything except maybe special ingredients.

I want to garden and fish for the extra 120 points you gain in the challenge for those skills. It is also cheaper to eat that way and you start out struggling for a while in this challenge. I only was asking about buying groceries to buy the initial veggies to plant.

I don't see how that is possible- unless you're using a custom world/neighborhood and not EA's default neighborhood. I'm not sure if this would fix the problem, but try to Edit the library in the Edit Town mode and buy new bookcases.

Twinbrook is a bad neighborhood for this challenge. I have read in other threads as well that the Twinbrook library has no skill books. So if anyone uses that neighborhood definitely go edit the library before starting. I am having fun with this one so far :) It seems like everything breaks and gets filthy faster when you can't call a handyman or hire a maid!

Ah? Is that so? In that case, just buy a bookcase for your Sim's home, so she could learn the skills at home. And, glad you're enjoying the challenge. :beer:

I was thinking about doing a Geek Challenge Legacy - since you CAN invite Sims over when you become friends via chat, so maybe you could find a woman/man who you'd fall in love with and ask to move in and marry. Of course, to make it a Geektastic Legacy, you have to add in a rule that the person you marry in must also be a geek and computer addict with the Computer Whiz trait and all, or have the Hates the Outdoors trait so she/he would never leave the house. :)
You could have babies and even hospital births since the hospital trip is brief and you won't be away from the computer for long, but you would probably neglect the kids to play computer games. :p
Anyways, the babies would probably have bad traits, but if you choose the heir, they must either have Computer Whiz and all that.
This is an interesting challenge and reminds us that we are just humans playing with virtual humans and this challenge... well, what if one of us Simmers became a Sim, always addicted to the computer? :lolz:

Two questions:
1) Can our geek buy properties and and upgrade those with computers to make these places accessible?
2) My geek met Connor Frio online, but became friends with him in the library. Is this acceptable i.e. do I score +50 points?
Thank you for this challenge. I am enjoying it. :)

Hi again. I just finished this challenge with a score of 4275.
My Sim never got lonely or desolate and the computer never broke down. She tinkered with it at level 5 handiness and it became unbreakable just like that. Her one and only friend was Colin Frio. She never bothered with anyone else. She learned 11 skills and mastered 9. She earned £367,339 from writing. She only studied in the library between 12pm and 9am after befriending Colin and never met anyone during those hours. She purchased the consignment store, but sold it when it got glitched (If not, she would have bought a top camera and maxed photography. She would, no doubt, have purchased more incense holders too). By the way, the consignement specialist never showed up in the relationship panel. I suppose she could have bought any fishing hole too in order to do something meaningful while maxing that skill, but she had already maxed gardening and had amazing meals from Stu Surprise, so I did not go that route.
If I had to do this again I would not bother with 'friends' or people at all. Insane or green thumb Sims can perfectly manage social needs on their own and if not, I suppose she could purchase a Simbot. A Simbot is not a Sim (no deduction of points for that friendship) and could get all those other things your Sim may want (like books, groceries - I missed the little rubber duckie and incense a lot until she bought the consignment store and installed a computer there). The points from writing far exceed points for mastering skills too, so... appart from maxing a few core skills and snapping up the points for learning skills I wouldn't bother. The points for maxing skills would have to be much bigger to make that worthwhile or... 10 points per $1000 earned from writing is too much.
My Sim was very happy maxing skills other than writing though and acquired 275,112 happiness points in total. Maybe there should be points for that?
Oh and lol... the only time I had to deduct 10 points for meeting a Sim other than online was when the Grim Reaper came to claim her. :)

1. Your Sim may only earn money from the computer (Hacking or Writing)
Question:
if your Sim has the Genius trait, can they make money from "Solving the Unsolvable"?
vhanster

Sure. That option comes from the computer after all
