View Full Version : Modding new Traits

Sorry if this is a re-posting of someone else's idea - I had a little check to make sure, but couldn't see anything...

I'm hoping to mod a few extra traits into my game, essentially so that I can make the characters a little more rounded.

Essentially, I'm hoping to splice existing traits together, so that instead of having to add the 'couch-potao' 'hates the outdoors' 'slob' 'kleptomaniac' and 'technophobe' traits to a little tribe of green-skinned characters that I have, I can just select the NEW trait 'goblin' for each of these characters, and then pick another 4 traits to give them their individual personalities beyond their goblin-ness...

Am I making any sort of sense?

If anyone could let me know how I'd do this, or if there's a tutorial about this that I've been unable to find, I'd be grateful.

Essentially, I'm hoping to create mega-traits, to help me enhance characters: whether their multi-talented, or hopelessly un-talented.

Being able to create some sort of trait that would allow nocturnal characters to enjoy being in totally dark rooms would be rather cool too.

All the best,
C.

That's a good idea, if you look in some of the game files, there's something like that in it. There's a name that describes a bunch of traits, and then those traits are listed under it. And so on. I can't find it now though, but I saw it last night.

But if you figure out how to do this, I'd love to know how as well.

What I'd really like to know, is how to add new traits to the game. I know it's possible as others have done it, I'm just not sure how to do it myself.

Look for 'personas' in the XML.

There are a few threads in here about what's involved with adding new traits:

I believe that the new traits added in AM, for instance, basically unlock some traits that were half-implemented in the code, and not included in the final release.

For the OP's original purpose, though... MasterController (and possibly other mods as well) allow you to have more than 5 traits... so it might be simplest to simply go that route ;)
