View Full Version : no AL closets

I finally found the little link, that leads to the actual help boards,... couldn't find category "Apartment life", though, so I went with next best, general...
3 days ago, I wanted to edit some dorms and couldn't find the built in closets in buy mode, not even with any of the relevant cheats.
After 2 days I discovered, that those wardrobes were visible/in their right category in "normal houses", and occupied apartments.
I cannot find them there, when I am in a dorm or in an unoccupied apartment (which have closets built in already).
Yes, I've run a completely empty new game. I have all expansions/add ons except for Ikea and M&G. And I did reinstall everything recently, because I had never added the latest sequels and when I did 2 months ago, some old ones claimed to be missing.
Any suggestions?

I've seen a thread just like this yesterday. That was answered and closed. Maybe you should go take a look?

That was my thread, it was NOT answered and closed.
When I came back to edit, that I had found the closets in regular houses and occupied apartments, I couldn't, because it had been closed. I was ... erm ... a bit upset ... the problem is still bugging me, so I returned today and actually found the help board - the link is so hidden, it's hard to spot...

Oh, that is what evil admins do - they lock your thread and hide it.
That thread was answered for sure, since I remember well reading the answer. Did you check what the answer was saying?

No need to be upset. It was locked because you posted in the wrong section: Discussion is for discussion, but if you're having a technical problem then you need the Help section. The link on the main Help page is purposely not hugely obvious so that people actually try the wiki because most problems can be solved by reading one of the million FAQ walkthroughs there, and don't require a new thread.
In your previous thread you were given some suggestions by mangaroo, have you tried them? I remember having this problem before - sometimes the closets would appear in the catalogue and other times they wouldn't - and it was due to a hack (can't remember which one).

I started a completely new game, no hack or the like, no CC at all.
I posted in the wrong section to begin with, because all I've ever posted here used to be in dl comments. I don't usually need personal help. Reading through boards and googling normally fixes everything for me. I don't know my way around here other than the dls.
And hiding the help link is pretty contra productive, makes more people post in the wrong board and less people come to the help board to answer questions...

And hiding the help link is pretty contra productive, makes more people post in the wrong board and less people come to the help board to answer questions...Not really. Each forum has a message before you post stating what that section is for which directs you to the Help section, and once someone has gone through an FAQ/walkthrough there is a link to the Help forum. And the people who are able to answer help questions (not me, for the record, I saw your post because I too had previously had this problem) already know where the Help section is ;) The link is on the main Help page it's just not as big as the wiki links.
Hopefully someone who can actually help will be along soon, hope you get the problem sorted.

Sorry you were upset, BoaConstrictor. Your thread was locked, but the moderator did give you links to some help articles in there. The reason we lock threads that are in the wrong place is to make searching easier; if a solution is found then it could help others as ling as it is in the help archive, as that's where people will search. :)
For your problem, I found this thread which may help:

Bumping to note that it has been discovered that this is a game 'feature'. A fix may be coming soon. :) In the meantime, just use the AL collections folder to find the items when on apartment lots.
Thank you simsample for finding this thread for me! (search on MTS was down for me due to high traffic, every time I tried and weirdly Google didn't bring that up, either) That's the end of the thread you pointed me to. lol, and obviously the end of the story, since I doubt EA will still try to fix, what they borked on Sims2. I bet, they are already working on Sims4 instead of just updating the old games by incorporating the features of the next...
That's mirroring my exact same problem there, I have no idea about those bookcases, didn't even know, they existed (I've never really played the game beyond base, when I tried to fix careers and majors to finally get into playing; I returned from 3 now, because 2 actually offers so much more...)
I'll see if I can find that collection option, if everything fails I will resort to putting the closets in on arrival of the tenants.
No wonder tesing and playing around for 4 days didn't bring up a solution for me. It amazes me, though, that there is not more mention of that bug anywhere.
Thanks to everybody's input here!
P.S.: I found the collections option. o.k. in apartments, but greyed out in dorms. *sigh*
