Installed Ambitions and launcher won't come up

I'm hoping that this is in the right spot... and that this hasn't already been asked D: sorry if it has been. I didn't see any posts about this issue... but here it goes.
I have Sims3 and it says on the launcher that it's up to date. I just got the Ambitions expansion pack (I don't have any other expansions) and I installed it, but when I try to open the launcher, a little box pops up that says that the launcher has stopped working and that Windows is trying to find a solution and then it goes away. The launcher never comes up and the game never starts.
I'm not really wanting to uninstall and reinstall the base game in order to get the expansion to work. Is there anything else I could try to do before resorting to this?

Does the game work if you run it straight from TS3EP02.exe in Program Files?

Well...
I've been trying to install it to my external hard drive (since that's where I put Sims 3) and since that wasn't working, while I was waiting for a response here, I tried installing it to the laptop itself rather than the external, and it seems to be working now...
