You know how you'll have a Sim bring home someone from work, they'll hang around, then whine about "you invited me over and didn't let me get any sleep"? (Never mind that no such invitation was extended.)

At any rate, one afternoon Gabrielle O'Mackey stopped by her cousin Sarah's house, and her Uncle Gabe let her in. Sarah proposed a sleepover and fixed lunch for everyone.

Gabe, Alexandra, and Sarah eventually went to bed. Gabrielle stayed up all night shooting pool, and in the morning her Aunt Alexandra fixed her an omelet.

I was wondering how long she was going to stay (by then it's Saturday afternoon) and Sarah had to be heading off to work soon (she and Gabrielle are both in the Gamer career track). So Gabe told his niece good-bye.

What I understand is that when you invite a Sim over for the night, they're supposed to be able to use showers and beds. There was still a bed in Jules' old room. Yet Gabrielle didn't use the shower or bed or anything. Hm. Yet she didn't complain.

I don't know what triggers A or B behaviour, but in my game the majority --not all, mind you-- of the friends my Sims ask to sleep over use the bathroom to take a shower. It is the first thing they do once they agree to stay for the night.
Yet, I have seen Sims complaining to the host for not letting them sleep, while others will use the bed in the guest room.

I've had party guests use showers and bathtubs (especially at the Greek houses) without being influenced to bathe. I think there's always a random element to what visitors will do, and the random list includes all possible actions, not just the ones that make sense.

The only way I can get visitors to sleep is by having a playable sim WooHoo with them, and I don't use influence so I don't know if you can (Influence.../Sleep). I've never understood the Sleepover option.

I have had the problem with Sims claiming that my Sims have invited them over for the night, when they actually didn't, many times. I've also had a teen Sim invite her boyfriend over for a sleepover, and he stayed a week - a week! - by using the toilet and shower, eating the food that the family served, and sleeping in the tent they had in the backyard.
The "sleepover" option seems really bugged, if you ask me...

Maybe it's a glitch that causes it I've had the same notice before when they definitely were not invited to sleepover. I think the shower/ tub behaviour may depend on one of two things outgoing and cleanliness I have observed in my game outgoing sims are more happy to nude up and use an other sims utilities and also one with high neat points who seems to have ocd when it comes to hand washing (I actually worry about this particular sim. Sad huh?)
Speaking of glitches and on a related theme I had a sim on a date downtown who some random townie latched on to, followed home and left a one rose bouquet thing.

My experience is, that the guest must be tired enough to go to bed, and "enough" seems to mean "almost passing out". I usually just pause the game, make the guest selectable (I play with testingcheats on), drag their energy to orange (yellow is not enough!), make them unselectable again, and ta-dah: they go to bed.
Otherwise they'll play pool, watch tv, play poker... anything but sleep.
The invited guest will stay until guests need to go home the next night (= 2 am, or midnight for teens), if their motives are kept high enough... I use maxmotives quite a lot, so guests tend to stay forever. ;)

I've also had the "you invited me over but didn't let me sleep" thing once, and the sim in question was definitely NOT invited. She wasn't invited to the house at all, she came on her own (like most of the guests in my 'hood... everybody are BBFs, and walk in whenever and wherever they please :D ). Sometimes I have uninvited guests sleeping in my sim's beds... so probably, if there wouldn't be beds available then, it might result in the "didn't let me sleep" thing.

I've never had a sim stay over and sleep unless the bed was in a room with no other sims.. So maybe they have privacy issues?

There were only three beds--Gabe and Alexandra's, then Sarah's, then the bed in Jules' old room. *shrugs*

I was a bit reluctant to make Gabrielle selectable, because she's a playable Sim and not a townie.
