View Full Version : Are butterflies/beetles attracted to certain types of plants?

I just got a new house (from the exchange, so no CC) for my sims in Bridgeport. It has lots and lots of plants. When I moved the sims in, it spawned LOADS of beetles and butterflies all over the lot. I mean LOADS. So many, in fact, that they were being spawned in areas they cant be in, like the bottom of my swimming pool and in the "air" on what would be a second story of my house.
I tried catching them all (for almost 30 minutes) because that seemed to be helping with the hoard, but they respawn after a certain amount of time. They are also really loud because they all chirp at the same time. While its a bit comical, it's also kindof annoying.
Any suggestions?
TL;DR - My house spawned hoards of bugs/butterflies. Which plants attract them so I can remove them?

Plants have absolutely nothing to do with insects. Insects are instead spawned by "spawners." If you want to get rid of them, bring up the cheat bar, Ctrl+Shift+C, and type in testingcheatsenabled true, enter; after that, bring up the cheat bar again and type in (preferably while in Buy Mode) buydebug, enter. If I'm correct, this should make their spawners appear; white boxes with insect pictures on them.
You may need to collect the insect in question first before you can pick up and delete the spawner. But once you do, it should be gone for good.

Plants don't attract them at all. They're spawned by invisible spawner objects that the creator of the lot must've placed willy-nilly. You should be able to see them in buy/build mode as a white box. I think you may have to enable the buydebug cheat first:
testingcheatsenabled true
And then...
buydebug on

Also, I have found that if you turn a lot with spawners on too much it seems to make them multiply like crazy everywhere... So you might wanna try placing the lot elsewhere, not moving it, and seeing if there are as many spawners as in the originally placed lot... Just a thought.

It appears whoever made your house put in a lot of spawners. It's in your best interest to follow Hysterical and Nekowolf's directions and delete some, as too many spawners leads to lots of lag and clutter in general. Plus, if all the rarest items spawn on your home lot, where's the fun in that? ;)

Thanks guys!
I had no idea you could do that! My lot will now be usable again, yay!
As you can see, there were quite a bit of spawners. Apparently, there were also fish in the sky about 4 levels up. Haha. At least it made for some hilarious pictures.

UPDATE: I am now removing the spawners...there are about 5 spawners PER box shown in the picture. I have no idea how my game is still running!

Pardon my language but fucking hell, overkill on the spawners much?! Jeez, no wonder you had so many insects flitting about the place! What on earth is that all about?
I don't know if using the bulldoze/hammer/delete sledgehammer tool in build/buy mode might make it easier, because with that you can click and drag thus deleting all objects of a certain type, but that might also get rid of furniture. Worth testing though because you can always undo the changes.

haha that's awesome! i wonder how many my computer can take before it gives up. I might make a nature park with butterflies everywhere :)

Buuut, if it's a Beautiful Vista lot, then you don't want to bulldoze it or you'll lose the bonus. But yeah, seriously, what the hell?

I think she meant using the sledgehammer tool in build mode and then dragging to delete all similar objects, not bulldozing the entire lot. (:

^ That's it, couldn't remember what it was called, thanks! The sledgehammer tool allows you to click and drag so it will delete all objects within that certain area. Should definitely work for all those spawners that are floating around the perimeter.

Wish I would have thought of that ^ two hours ago! Oh, well.
Also, remember I DID NOT MAKE THIS LOT. Some other idiot on the exchange did. I finally got all the spawners out.....one by one.....there were easily several thousand of them. They were on every surface (and non-surface), every floor, even UNDER THE GROUND! I have no idea why this guy made it like that, unless he was trying to screw over people's games Second Life style. My compy is new (built it last week) so it could handle it fine - luckily. I would have been really upset had my family gotten stuck on that lot when it crashed (which would have happened on my old computer).
You guys were right about having to pick up all the bugs. It sucks. I have two sims and they've been going at it for about 45 mins now and we're done with all except the back left corner, so I guess that's progress. It helps that one is a vampire and can run fast from place to place.
I like the lot and I really want to live in it - otherwise I'd just delete it and get a new house - but I will NEVER download another lot from the exchange ever again. This is my first and last experience with those creeps.

Here's one of what it looked like inside the house:

Those fish were pretty epic.

For some reason, I dunno why, I started thinking of the song, "Aquarius." I must purge myself! *loads up some Alice Cooper instead*

It is most likely an error.
There was an issue a while back where rotating a placed lot would duplicate all the spawners on the lot, every single time.
Don't recall seeing any report of a fix for the issue, so the error may still be around (or it's an old lot from pre-fix times).
Cheers. :)

Ooh ooh I know! If you wanna see something cooler, buy the Collection Helper reward, then switch it to show seeds/insects/fish. Bam! Pretty rays of light all over the house! :D

That would make sense if I had rotated the house, but I didn't. It sat down the right way, so I left it. Maybe it was an error, but I checked out the guy and he has no friends, no messages, nothing on his profile, etc. Just a little fishy.
I might try re-uploading the house (giving him credit) after all the bugs are cleared. I'll post a link if I do.

You wouldn't have needed to do so... Perhaps the creator was using the house in their own town, and had rotated it prior to uploading.

Ah. That makes sense. He must have rotated it ALOT, though! Haha.
