It could be that you have a download that is categorized for teens on a ya/a/elder.
Does changing close get rid of the problem ?

That is -really- weak, unsupported integrated graphics with not a lot of RAM under Vista, in a laptop (where heat can be a big issue). That mismatch can often be a graphics issue - the graphics chip you have may be overstressed/overheating, causing that problem. I would strongly suggest -not- playing the game on that laptop.

It may have worked before but it was still a bad idea to be playing on that laptop. Your graphics are very weak and unsupported, and you likely over-strained them before and this is a symptom of the lasting and permanent damage that's been done. Updates are not going to fix what is a hardware issue - and if you kill the graphics on your laptop, you've basically toasted the whole thing. You can probably play Sims 2 on it, but your graphics are not on the supported list for Sims 3, and we don't even recommend playing with the supported models of Intel graphics - especially not on a laptop.

Learning something new everyday :)
The symptoms are so much alike, so thanks to HP to clearing that up for me, too.
