View Full Version : Apartment Life disk won't run?

My sister tried to install Apartment Life on her computer. She already has the basic Sims 2, Seasons, and Free Time. However, when inserting the Apartment Life disk into the disk drive, the computer simply refuses to acknowledge there is a disk. Suspecting it was just the drive, she tried to run other disks in her computer, and they worked just fine. Also, when I tried using Apartment Life in my computer, it wasn't acknowledged by the computer.
We've tried cleaning the disk as well, like the Install help thingy said to. I'm not quite sure if this is the right forum, but all the other one told me not to post Sims 2 technical issues.

I had a problem like this.
You're computer may not have a DVD-ROM drive, therefore it cannot read the CD.

If all other CDs/DVDs work, and that disk doesn't work in any computer, take it back and get a replacement.

@ Coolteamem: I believe I already said other disks worked (this includes other Sims disks) so the drive is not the problem.
@ Whiterider: It has worked before, and the disk was a gift, so we can't really do that.

Disks do get damaged over time - if it's clearly the disk that's the problem, and cleaning it hasn't helped, then getting a replacement is really the only option. If you can't take it back to the shop, EA may be able to send you a discounted disk with no serial key (you don't pay for the serial key because you already own one).

Or take it to Best Buy and get them to make a copy for $30. Worked for me.

That's a lot of money for making a copy- and copying the discs is not allowed. You would be better off contacting EA (if you are in the states) and getting a replacement disc, which I think costs around $10. If that is not possible then a second hand copy would be better- you could probably even get a new copy for $30.

Can't you get the disc repaired?
Here where I live, we can just take a scratched disc to a game store, and they'll remove the top layer of the disc (not the layer with the data of course!) and place a new layer on top of it. Or some sort of process like that. I've done it before with an old game (The Settlers IV) and after the repair it ran perfectly.
Otherwise, if this isn't an option, then you should indeed try to get a replacement disc from EA.

That depends upon how much they charge for the repair, MisaMii- and of course, there is no guarantee that the repair would work. You can try repairing the CD yourself as a last resort- metal polish or toothpaste can remove the scratched surface in some cases.

Well I contacted EA and Best Buy before and they said if you pay the price of another game, then being $30 seeing as it had been out forever, and just got a copy of your existing disc made, it was perfectly legal as long as only that copy was made.
But then again that was just 2 EA/Best Buy employees talking.
