noob with a new game.

I just bought sims 3 world adventures and I don't know what Im doing wrong. I send them to a foreign land and they don't show up. Am I not waiting long enough for them to get there? I see the happiness bar ( its blue) and the wants tab ( its empty)

and the sims 3 FAQ is blank for me at least.
