I bought sims3 from steam and I wanted to use the create a world tool, so I downloaded it and it won't install because it says This product requires an installed copy of the Sims3. Please install the sims3

From what I've read, the file structure is very slightly different:

I would say that's why CAW won't work- it's looking for the expected bin files.

Have you tried installing CAW to \Steam\steamapps\username (or wherever it's put your Sims 3 files) to see if that helps?

Interesting,
I need to get over there more often and read up on stuff. Ahh, only so many hours in a day, and that stupid real life stuff takes up too many of them.

No, we can't post those- it would be piracy. I'm guessing that you won't be able to use some mods or tools, due to the different core version. I wonder if EA will patch both versions to match? We are due a new patch soon.

That's not the issue- but if I upload files then anyone will be able to download them, whether they have the game or not. Also, your game is a different version- you have the Steam version which is a different game version number to my retail game. So my Bin files would not help you.
