Peculiar bookcase blocks room, not able to delete

My Sims moved into an apartment in Belladonna Cove...the one up on the hill with just two levels but long and narrow. They live on the top floor in the unit on the right. There's a small room at the front of their apartment which is blocked by a bookcase with shelves on either side, i.e., shelves in the tiny room and shelves in the adjacent room. I think this is supposed to be the "hidden door" bookcase. However, it does not function as a door and in Buy Mode it cannot be deleted. Can't delete it in Build Mode of course because wall tool is grayed out. Can't delete it with the "Moveobjects..." code. Consequently there's a room that can't be used. Anyone else had this and how can I get rid of that bookcase?

Have you tried reading the mysteriously mysterious mystery novel from it? That's how it functions as a door. Sims won't go through it if you simply direct them to the room, you have to have them read the book to get through it. Otherwise the only way I know to get rid of it would be to move the family out and edit the apartment.

The DeBateaus' apartment in Cornerstone Condominiums has that. With a fireplace in that "hidden" room. I wonder what would happen if a fire were to break out in that room....

Like others have said, either have your Sim pull out the "Mysteriously Mysterious Mystery novel" or move your playables out, change zoning to residential, edit it, then change zoning back to apartmentbase.

When I click on that bookcase, I don't see an option to read that book...will just having them click on "read" do the trick?

BTW, I never heard of that mystery novel before, despite playing Sims 2 since it's come out. Thanks for the info. Now, how do I find the book?

I believe you have to click on 'Read Book' and then you will see the 'Mysteriously Mysterious Mystery Novel' option.

I believe Pescado has a hack to go through the bookcase automatically and use it as a regular door so that you don't have to keep choosing the Mysterious Mystery Novel option.
By the way, that "book" is really a secret button, I believe, and only appears on this particular bookcase, that's probably why.

Did you try using testingcheats, then Shift-click and select "Force Error," then clicking "Delete?" Just a suggestion.

^Yes, but then there would be no way to get into the room at all; in apartments you can't add doors.

If that is the Very Mysterious Shelving and you don't have the options to Read book > Mysteriously Mysterious Mystery Novel, then you have a game glitch. You can either work through the Game Help:Game Problem FAQ to sort it out or you can follow Alexandra's suggestion to replace the shelving with a door.

Locking, since this is a game help rather than a gameplay issue.
