I have the same problem. Actually similar.

I have a graphic chipset, wich are very weak for handling The Sims 2, expecially ALL of it's expansions. And the quality of graphic in game - sucks. So, I read couple of tutorials, and found out that in Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Graphic there's one file, that handles graphic quality. Of, course, I modified it. Then I started the game, and if I was too long in the neighborhood, the game would crash with note "The Graphic adapter in this system has expirienced an internal error. Please contact your graphic card manfaucer for tehnical support." I said, who cares, and rerun the game (while my desktop had only 256 colors and 640×300 (I think?) resolution). BUT, THEN THERE WAS YOUR MESSAGE: YOU DON'T HAVE INSTALLED MANAGED DIRECTX 9.0C, OR THE GAME DIDN'T RECOGNISE IT IN YOUR SYSTEM. PLEASE REINSTALL.

And, for that, I just needed to restart my computer. And set graphic to minimum stareable. Sorry, my neighbor installed my Windows, and by that all of it's neccesary files, so I have no idea about that download (expecially a good one!). I don't know, keep Gooooooogleing ... maybe you find one... Good luck!

DJ., that's really not a good way to treat a computer... backup regularly, because you're going to break it, and it won't be fixable.

lolipoptalia, please post your system specs: Game Help:System Specs - among other things, that'll tell us which version of DirectX you have.

You need to have a hell of a lot more than 32MB RAM on your video card. Please post your system specs.
