Size options for plants in build mode - how to access?

Have googled, have checked the gameplay faqs, but can't seem to find an answer to this so I'm posting here and crossing my fingers... I know (?) that there are different sizes available for some of the build mode plants. I've seen a few references that indicate you 'just click a few times' to cycle through the sizes but my clicking only seems to bring up the same size over and over. Do I need to enter a cheat code to enable these, is it a key + click combination I've somehow overlooked, or.... I dunno. Is there a LIST of plants somewhere that have alternate sizes included (perhaps I'm trying with the wrong ones?)

Just would like some slightly smaller azaleas, lol. And maybe some water lillies. And... and... and...
