View Full Version : Wii U

I know that there's already an E3 thread going on but I feel like we need a separate one to discuss this console. First off I'm not fond of the name, I wish they would get rid of the Wii branding. Does anyone understand the name? All of Nintendo's other systems have had pretty obvious names but what's with the random U? I also wish it was in black, the Wii has good in white but imo this system would look better in black.
The system looks promising and I hope Nintendo can deliver, can't wait for SSB! What do you think of the system? The controller? Games? Nintendo's future?

I'd definately say Nintendo will bring out a Black version of the Wii U, like they did with the Wii (I lurve my black Wii!)
I never care for the names of consoles; I always hate the names of future console, but I always get used to them. Like the Playstation Vita, I don't like the name but I'll get used to it! Maybe the U means trying to get "you" more immersed into the games thanks to it's? I dunno really.
But, wow, that console looks amazing! The way the controller can connect with the games is so awesome, like using the controller to aim. And drawing onto the controller looks so cool!
Here's a video which shows all the features of it: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2011-wii-u/715096

I don't really like the name, either, but the console looks amazing. :D

I think the console itself won't be bad, but Nintendo could have done a much better job of showing it off here. A new Super Smash Bros. and Pikmin 3 are confirmed for the console, yet neither of the two could be shown there. In fact, not a single first party game was shown.
That Zelda tech demo was very impressive, though. Having only owned a Wii from the current generation's home consoles, I'm just not familiar with these "high tech" console graphics. To see Zelda in those graphics, yet maintaining its unique style is a real treat. I can't lie, I would LOVE to have a Zelda game with those graphics. That would make me buy the console all by itself.
The controller is a pretty much what it was advertised to be. I figured that none of those mockups were practical considering how big that screen was going to be, and the screen was even larger! Now, I'm not really into this motion control stuff. To be honest, it really turned me off from the Wii. The remote always left itself on and drained its batteries and it was annoying needing to find that right spot on the TV for it to be read. However, I think this might have some potential. Many people are saying positive things about it, so we'll wait and see.
I want to hear more about the online. It has been 'confirmed' by sources outside of Nintendo that there won't be friend codes. I really want to hear it straight from them. Reggie said that there will be more revealing of how the online works as this week passes on, so hopefully they'll mention that (and other important stuff about how they're trying to bring the online experience up to the competition's level, of course!)
I can't say I really like the name, but there's no changing it. I was hoping that they'd drop the "Wii", in fact I was sure they would because they haven't done this kind of naming since the Nintendo 64, and back then it was with the word Nintendo. Complaining about the name is silly, though. Nintendo will have to prove to me (and others) that this isn't just another Wii. I think from what we've seen it isn't, but we really need to see some games, and of course the new and improved online experience. I have a feeling we'll have to wait until next E3 to really see this console in action. Hopefully then they'll have the third party titles actually working on the Wii U, and of course first party titles showing it off.

I hope this one has better online play and games worthy of online play. I'm not really expecting the equivalent of Xbox, but something leaning more in that direction would be cool.

Ehh, it just makes me wonder what's gonna happen when Sony and Micro$oft release their next consoles. Will Nintendo roll out a successor? The Wii U finally levels the playing field graphically among this current generation, while upping the casual ante enough to possibly pull another Blue Ocean...It's strange. It's ahead of the current market concept wise, but still behind in terms of hardware. But I guess it was just time, the Wii has really started to show it's age, as of late.
I also wonder how much it'll cost...The new controller itself looks like it's gonna run more than a few pennies. Thank god it's backwards compatible game and peripheral wise.
Wii=We because the Wii has this magic ability to make families love each other enough to get together and drive tennis balls into each others Mii's faces.
U=You, because it's apparently going to allow more personal interaction. Together, the homophones represent the contradictions Nintendo has seen within it's market. It makes sense if you don't think about it.

I can't wait for the day the release the Sims Play on the Wii U. And I will have my Ikea Sit and my Starbucks Sip.
