I've had the Sims 2 for a while and I was wondering how you make your sims paint the big portraits you see in like legcays and stuff.

painting still lives are a great pastime for my platinum sims who are otherwise waiting for the reaper.

Technically, for a person, you want "portrait."

Technically, for a person, you want "portrait."
Except then they have to come and pose every time you want to keep working on the portrait. (I know that once you've queued it, you can cancel the action out for the posing sim, but it's still a pain in the butt if Sim A wants to work on Sim B's portrait and Sim B is off the lot.)

Okay, that's what I thought but I guess my sims never have enough creativity points to do it.

Take a picture of your sim posed how you want it.
Save the picture.
Use a picture editing program to edit the saved picture as you want.
(Probably best to use a 2x3 aspect ratio. If you aren't sure, just check the sizes of the other maxis paintings in the Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2>Paintings folder and take pictures of a similar size.)
Save as a jpg.
Drop the saved jpg into your Documents>EA Games>The Sims 2>Paintings folder.
Then have your sim paint a custom painting using the easel to point your sim to the jpg you just edited and saved.
Your sim won't have to have a model available each time they work on the painting.
When the sim is done painting, hang the painting on the wall, like you would other paintings your sims create from the easel.
Edited to add: I nearly forgot to mention that there is a mod somewhere that allows sims of any creativity level to paint custom paintings. Probably here on MTS.

Don't move custom paintings out of the lot and into another, otherwise they can revert to default paintings. In my game they always revert to sunset quickly, on the second load of the lot. :(
There is a better way to have custom paintings, but it requires handling SimPE:

I've had custom paintings revert to sunset without ever moving them off the lot. They still retained their value of several hundred simoleons though.
