I`ve read the Sim3 Help section and it does not help nor answer my problem (s)-neither does the FAQ section.
I`m losing Sims!.... I play, save my game and quit and when I go back all their picture icons are just blank with a green background and they are frozen so I cannot playthem nor control them.
I do use the 'testingcheatsenabled true' cheat, also the 'buydebug' and occaionally the 'moveobjects on'.
I have limited custom content-nothing new that did not work before Generations came out.
I do not use any 'Mods' that I can recall. With the buydebug and testingcheatsenabled true, I find their is no need.
I also do use a emptied Neighborhood with only community lots...however I do not see how this would affect my game.
Can anyone share their thoughts on this? Would be much appreciated, thank you

There's another thread on that issue. It looks to be a Generations glitch with the save system. It happened to my old save right after installing Generations. I just chalked it up as a corrupted save and started a new family and haven't had a problem since

I think you are right- it is a glitch. This will be my 5th or sixth time ? . . . starting over with a new family :(

This happened in one of my saved games a few days ago. Out of curiosity I let the game run overnight to see if the sims would come back, and they did...sort of. The next morning the portraits were there to select and the names were the same, but they all had different clothing, traits, lifetime wishes, hair, etc. They also had an old man living with them who the game claimed was the grandfather of the oldest male sim (who was an adult at the time I had saved). I used Master Controller to edit him in CAS and aged him back to a teenager. He was an identical clone of my original male. Same clothes, hair, everything. Anyway, I was able to change the family back to the way I originally had them, though I kept the new "grandfather". He died the next day.

Not using mods is the cause as this glitch is brought on by EA's buggy StoryProgression. But to each his own.
We have a sticky on this very issue in Help, how does that not help? And searching in wiki? It is the first 2 results - http://simswiki.info/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=%22missing+sims%22&go=Go

Just my opinion but I don't see anything in those links that seem that helpful. They basically say there's no work around or to try a certain mod to see if it helps

Not a problem, if you like to continue starting new games, who am I to say any different?
Though, thousands of AM and Nraas downloaders could continue playing their legacy games. ;)
Those mods *are* the workarounds. The permanent solution have to come from EA. Well, if they manage not to introduce 10 other new bugs with it that is.
So for those of us who have given up on waiting for EA's patches for TS2's BonVoyage, M&G and various other packs' glitches are not holding our breaths. Yes, I've grown cynical.

I use Nraas Story Progression in my game, as well as Error Trap. I think this is what eventually allowed my game to somewhat restore itself, as Error Trap logged over 200 script errors during the time my sims were not selectable.
I completely agree that EA has dropped the ball on fixing bugs. If it wasn't for the modding community, I would have given up on TS3 long ago. I appreciate the links to the wiki, too. Maybe they will help the next unfortunate soul who discovers EA's mistakes. ;)

I'm about to reset my whole game. Again. Second time since installing Generations. I just lost another family when I sent them to France. They simply disappeared.
I use Nraas debug enabler, overwatch, error trap, woohooer and porter. I've not installed Story Progression. I suppose I'll give that a go . . . .I don't know, I spend more f***ing time fixing the game than playing.

I've had the problem happen to me even with Twallan's Story Progression so I don't think just having that mod will help. I don't use Overwatch though I might try that to see if it helps should it happen again.

@Katatrophe1112: There is a file named TravelDB in the Saves folder that I believe containing the travelling data of your sims, last time when I had problems after travelling to China, I deleted the file and the save works again, I don't know why. But you still need to remove every pieces of CC to another folder, keep the mods up to date, download Delphy Dashboard the new version to clear caches.
You can rename the old The Sims 3 folder in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 and the game will create a totally new, clean folder, then copy the old saves over to try to fix it.
Next times, remember to hit the Save As instead of Save to have a backup when the unexpected happens.
I had a very hard time with my sims last week, it was incredibly frustrated, like wanting to smash the screen, I can't get rid of the error code 12, my game crashes or freezes every 20 min or less. In the worst case I hope you can at least pack families to a new town and start over again.
I never want to travel with WA anymore.

@noxnoxnox - thanks for the information. This game is stupendously frustrating. Travel is dicey. The characters disappear, get stuck there, sink into blue lots . . . I've lost track of the errors I've encountered in this game. Now photography is broken. Wtf. The Sim snaps a photo and freezes. The camera icon stays and the Sim just stands in place waiting for a reset. *spontaneously combusts*

I have a love/hate relationship with WA, I only keep it installed for the building/decorating stuff. Same with LN, if I'm being honest.

Every time I've tried to play WA my game glitches to unplayability. I also only keep it installed for the extra items. Whenever I want a camera or learn the photography skill, I go to the consignment store. You can usually find a camera and/or the skill book there if you keep visiting.

You can also buy the cameras and training dummies and stuff from the buydebug, which is what I usually do if I'm worried about travel, which most of the time, I am.
:new: I always use this trick when i have to create a new save coz stupid EA glitches that will never be fixed even the games are not cheap theyr too lazy :gjob:
I'm using this since world adventures and it works every time:
1-After your old save loads up (mostly around 15 minutes depending on how much dlc and expansions you have :!!:  ) pause the game and go to edit town
2-choose the houshold (yours or any other, you can do this with all of them)
3-click on it from the edit town wiev and select copy to library option either with or without house
4-Start a new map/save
5-Choose your old family from the library in edit town wiev and move them in
6-Yea there you go! all your aspiration points, skills, money and all you had in your inventory on your sims is back in a new save, just dont forget it will be bit complicated now, but must be done other way you will get trouble with the game a bit:
-quit all jobs by phone at first!!! this is very important
-you have to create new relationships they dont save to library
-use your inventory on your sim to take all items like photos, paintings, cars and so on with him to the library or its lost!!! needs to be done before saving to library
-if you had any kids they dont know you enymore so make new ones
Have fun that all i think you have to do it step by step and this trick works even on corupted saves renamed to good ones (tried that so im sure) this is the only way to make it a bit easier to start a new save when a new expansion gets out and EA forgets about us players/buyers again
If you will experience any problems it means you didnt do all steps corectly :!:
Hope i could help many of you :Pint:

Well, here's another bit of weirdness. Today after a campaign fundraiser, when I zoomed back on the family at home, I couldn't access the home. The roof faded and I had no control whatsoever. Anyone else experience this stupidity?
Also, the eldest offspring was enrolled in boarding school. Then she just came home an adult? :wtf:

I've had something similar when doing firefighter jobs. If they aren't already in the house and I switch to another sim, they lose all interactions and thus can't save any sims inside or put out any fires that aren't outside.

Another strange occurrence! This one made me howl. I finally, for the first time since installing Generations actually have a multi-generational family thanks to all the great solutions I've found on forums here. However, my matriarch was inventing something when she caught fire. There was no shower in the workspace to extinguish her, thus she died by fire. After coming to terms with the fact that I'd killed my own character through carelessness, I adjusted to life without her. Saved and restarted the game several times. She was definitely dead. Overwatch or MC recorded and reported her death. A full 24 hours (and a long computer shutdown) after I'd accidentally cooked her she REAPPEARED as my patriach's EX-WIFE?!!! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha. I had to teleport her to the family house from "outer space" (she was in the family household thumbnail line-up, and her icon was off in the ether at some unreachable place). So freakin' weird.
Unfortunately, the patriarch has already found solace in the arms of one of the offspring's IF, though he and the ex-wife enjoy a "friends with benefits" moodlet whenever possible.
I've a regular soap opera cast of Sims.
