I'm sorry if there's already a forum for this, but I'm a lazy ass & choose not to. That said, I wondered if there is a way to recolor trees, of all things, but I want to make a world inspired by the northeast US, but none of the trees look right, I'm looking for trees like the deciduous trees in the game bully, or canis canem edit for some of you, and I think that recolored cherry trees would work. Does anybody have any suggestions?

It has been done, HP has some recoloured trees:

As far as I know it's currently only possible to do a default replacement, I don't think anyone has managed to clone the speedtree items yet (I think you'd need Speedtree for a start, which is a tad expensive).

I've recolored the RH, and trees, then drop them back in the .world file, so the recolors override the default.

Pros:
They transfer with the world, so there is no need for down loaders to acquire CC.

Cons:
It overrides the default so you can only use the recolored tree.
Once ingame they will be recolored in your WA vacation destinations, not so good if you've recolored them with snow.
In game, if you quit the world with the recolors, and open another world to play, the recolors will transfer to the next that world, an stay there until you clear out your cache files. You must completely quit the sims 3, then reopen to start another world.

Here's a tut I did only using s3pe here Adding & Extracting Metadata Objects: Recolors, Rabbit Holes, Trees, ect. (http://customsims3.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=102&pid=348#pid348)

Inge has pointed out that it's easier to extract the files with s3oc, here's a tut
