The UARS satellite is due to hit earth sometime in the next 24 hours with chunks up to 600kg expected to survive re-entry and at this stage NASA are still unsure as to whose backyard it will be crashing into.

I heard about this. Apparently, you're in for a treat if you get to see it streaking across the sky. It's meant to look like a giant fireball.

The link doesn't seem to work though.

Lol actually It should, Its supposed it be veeeerrry slow.. the link, that is.
Wont be a treat when it lands. Most likely to crash onto land... and you know what that means..

Nope. Coltraz is correct. That link doesn't work.

But the Nasa site has some good updates going:

http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/uars/index.html

According to NASA; "There is a low probability any debris that survives re-entry will land in the United States, but the possibility cannot be discounted because of this changing rate of descent. It is still too early to predict the time and location of re-entry with any certainty, but predictions will become more refined in the next 12 to 18 hours."

The link works but it is broken in your post.

Originally NASA was saying it would most likely land in the ocean, but yes, it does seem to be over land now. It looks like I have no chance of seeing it streaking across the sky. It's way down in southern Africa and looks to be headed toward Europe.

ETA: Nevermind. It's moving really fast! I guess it could land anywhere.

I think it's supposed to hit the US or the ocean.

Nasa has also "discouraged the population from stargazing or cloudwatching in their lawns. (http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Satellite) "

There's another German decommissioned satellite to hit in early November! Didn't any of these people here the saying"What goes up must come down,"?
