I'm going to ask a question that some people may find incredibly stupid, but please bear with me. I've been seeing downloads for these on many SIMS 3 CC sites and I can't for the life of me figure it out: "What are 'poses' in the SIMS and what are they used for exactly. Is it just to make videos and screen captures of if you actually download custom poses will it be something the SIMS randomly does in the game or a pose you could put them in or an interact option.

Sincerely,
Confused.

It seems that you're unaware of the huge modelling base in the Sims community.

Poses are for taking screenshots. (Not even videos... they CAN be animated, but most aren't.) People use em to illustrate stories, show off their CC, or basically play dressup with their sims ;)

They have no use whatsover in gameplay.

If you DO download a pose, btw, you'll also need to get CMO's Pose Player to make it work :)

thanks , that was somewhat helpful. where would I get CMO's mod player. The reason I'm unaware of the modeling scene in SIMS community is because until recently I've never played a console or PC game . I know next to nothing about SIMS.

You need the Poseplayer found here. (http://linna.modthesims.info/download.php?t=438706)
Then you need to download poses. Most have been updated to be on a list, but some require you type in the pose name.
Here (http://mysims3blog.blogspot.com/search/label/Custom%20Poses) are most poses available.
You can use an OMSP (http://mysims3blog.blogspot.com/2010/12/one-more-slot-please-by-granthes.html) to put your sim in the right spot using the cheat "moveobjects on".

Then you can do things like this...

heh, well, speaking as somebody who plays a lot of different kinds of computer games... don't take the Sims or the Sims community as completely representative ;) The Sims is pretty unique in the range of different ways it can be played, and as you see here, played WITH... and because of that, in the range of different kinds of players it has!

Besides the modeling scene, there's the machinma scene (which requires a whole DIFFERENT set of tools), the world creators, the meshers, the scripters, the tool makers, the legacy players, the story writers and bloggers... and whole groups of people who specialize in following and documenting the rivalries and drama in the various Sims communities.

And there may be a few people who actually play the game as intended ;)
