View Full Version : Desperately Needing Help With The Sleeping Bag Texture Problem

Hi,
At first I thought this would be a really easy project so I decided to get it done and over with, but it has proven to be much more frustrating than I thought. The biggest problem is the texture. I am not sure why this keeps happening, but in the rolled up state when I first purchase it, the sleeping bag has the texture I want and set for it, and everything seems fine.
Then, when my sim goes to use the bag, the texture turns into a huge mess when it opens. The strange thing is that I can go into create a style mode and reset the preset and it will snap back to the texture it should be. Once the sim stops using it and rolls it back up again, the texture goes back to the ugly texture again. You can see a bit of what I mean in the screen shot below:
http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/6759/usingbag.jpg
Then there is the fact that it keeps going back to the ugly texture every time the sim uses it. I can still go to create a style mode and correct the texture again, but it gets really annoying to do this each time my sim goes to sleep.
Here are a couple other screenshots as well.

Below I have attached the TSRW project file. Thank you in advance for the help. :bunny:
EDIT:
I should also state that I do not have the Sims 3 Pets yet nor have I updated to the most recent patch. I am still on the 1.22 Generations patch. :)

Browse and switch between the bagroll and bagopen.
I did notice you didn't recolor the open version wich might can be the problem?
Another thing is that the textures were not in the same size and on the mask dds file your pattern b channel is grey(should be white and your pattern c is white while it is not enabled.
I am not 100% sure(check the original mask texture but i think the mask file should be DXT1noalpha instead of DXT5withinterpolatedalpha.(i dont have WA)
Try this one.

Thank you. :)
The sleeping bag open was giving me SO MANY problems. I spent six hours in TSRW trying to get rid of that pattern, then when I did, I couldn't recolor it in TSRW. I have always used DXT5 instead of DXT1 because I never knew there was a difference between them. If there is, that might be why I've been having problems with my clothing as well. :P

EDIT:
I am still having problems with the mesh. Here is what it keeps looking like when the Sim uses it:

This is how it should look open:

Here is the actual package file for someone to test it out quickly as well.

You did notice the 2 subsets?
I mean, these are handled like 2 diffrent objects, like doors and windows.
And when you open the 2nd subset wich is the bag rolled out there are no recolor options.
I dont have WA so i cant see the original file to compare.

Yes, I did see that. :)
The open one is what is giving me problems in TSRW. I tried to also make a futon as well seeing if it might possibly be the mesh, but it is doing the same exact thing as this current one is doing.
Also, the sleeping bag came in Sims 3 Generations, not WA. If you have that, you simply need to go under the "Beds" catergory and it should be there. :bunny:
Also, I can show what is happening to the futon as well if that will help. It's the same exact problem though with the texture getting messed up each time the sim uses it. If anyone can figure out what is causing this and how to fix it, I will be forever grateful. :help:

Ah, okay.
Hopefully someone with Generations will be able to see this and help me out. I desperately need it so I can finish my camping area. :)
It's just the texture problem, and I checked S3pe and cannot see where the issue is. If someone can help me out with this, I will be forever grateful.

it is probably because the open bag has no designs attached, no recolor options
You might can update it or recolour through the prop editor found in the material settings of group 1 (meshtab)
Wat you also can try is to export the Mlod from the closed bag and import it in the Mlod of the open bag.
After that reimport the correct meshes again in TSRW
just thinking outloud lol.....

Since there hasn't been anyone that found a solution through TSRW, I have created the S3PE folder for those who use S3PE. I extracted all the things I thought would be causing the texture problem, but I am still not sure how to use s3pe, so I may have some unneeded files in here as well. I have a saved .package file again for those to try out in their game to test as well.
I am not sure if there is something in the script that is causing this, but I cannot find where I went wrong with the textures. If someone would be kind enough to take a look at the extracted files and see if I messed up on anything, I'll be very grateful for it. :)
As stated earlier, I started over and tried to make a small mattress/futon and I am still having the same exact problems. If it would help, I can upload this as well to see if that will be easier to spot the problem. I just really want to get this working so I can use it for my camping/college Sims.

Whatever the issue is it was made with that tool so it's not something that can now be easily sorted out with a different one. If you want someone to look at it in s3pe it's prolly best to start over and make it with that tool.
On the other hand, since you've been working with TSRW to make this object why not post about it in their forums? Certainly someone at TSR should be able to help you with an object created with their tool. :)

I will start over with S3PE then. :)
The TSR website doesn't seem to want to work with my browser for some reason. It always crashes on me when I enter the site or I get a page not found. I will work on recreating it with S3pe tomorrow and will post an updated version if it still no longer works. :bunny:

You could clone the file with s3OC and import it in TSRW to see if it is diffrent but i doubt it.
To enable objects for recolouring wich originally aren't is pretty difficult wether you use TSRW or s3OC/s3PE

I am trying my hand at s3OC, but I have one major confusion with it. There are two .package files that I needed, which is the closed sleeping bag and then the open sleeping bag. Even though I haven't got to this part yet, but how will I place it in my game? Do I have to combine both the .package files in s3pe, or do I keep them separate and place them in my game that way?
Sorry, I have only used s3OC maybe once or twice, so I am not the best when it comes with it.
Bloom, is there a tutorial on how to make objects recolorable? Or is there someone who wouldn't mind giving me a really quick instructions on it?
I saw this in the _KEY tag:

You need OM's help here, i only use s3OC for default replacements.
I am guessing you could keep them seperate till you have 2 working files but they should be linked to one texture file at the end.
When adchieved that you can combine them in one package.
I do not think there is a tutorial on how to enable the opensleepingbag for recoloring.
It is a matter of copying all the settings of the closed one(OBJD) done with s3PE(through the GRID) but i find it very difficult and timeconsuming.
Maybe it is quiker to import all the settings from the closed bag(OBJD) and relink the meshes(think relink the VPXY)
But like i said, i do not use it enough to give you proper instructions

I saw this in the _KEY tag:
Is this what I need to change?I don't know of any way to make an unrecolorable object recolorable using s3pe...haven't heard of one for TSRW either although that doesn't mean much since I don't use that tool.
Your issue here is different though. The open sleeping bag *is* recolorable...it just references the recolor information in the closed sleeping bag object. In looking at both, it looks like the open bag _XML references the closed sleeping bag's ObjectRgbMask _XML among other things. I think it should be possible to make it so that your open sleeping bag does the same kind of thing using your closed sleeping bag as the source for its recolor information but it will require some work above and beyond the standard work that goes into creating an object using s3pe. I'm not sure TSRW is capable of this kind of thing at all. You do know how to pick a project Birdy :P
Anyway, if you're still interested in finishing the sleeping bag I would try asking about it in the Modding forum or ask a mod to move this thread there. I would help you here but I'm more of a mesher than a coder and this is gonna to take a bit of code-tweaking...maybe even more than I've already noticed and posted about above.

I am still interested in finishing this. :) Do I just ask here for a mod to move the thread, or do I make a new one in the modding section? Or do I just PM one of the moderators?

Hi Birdy - I think to move this whole thread to the modding forum might be a bit unwieldy - and I see that the thread topic/focus has changed. Can you create a new thread in the modding forum with the information you are now looking for help on and then link to this post?

i found out you best export the objd from the recolor part.
then open the objd from the none recolor and write down the resources/TGI's(ususally only a link to the vpxy file that is important)
When done replace it with the earlier exported recol objd.(update Category's after)
Do the same with the vpxy and MODl and Mlods.
This will make the modular item recololorble and hopefully fix your problem.

I have made the sleeping bag re-colorable by shrinking it down to fit inside the default rbg and multiplier mask. Even though I am satisfied with it, I can't upload it since I am pretty sure it is not up to MTS standards. The texture becomes blurry in game, so that is one of the major defects of it. Once I work on some other things and become more skilled, I will come back to this and do your suggestion BB. :duck:
