View Full Version : Alternative Sunset Valley (an idea)

Sometimes.. I tend to get over ambitious... so don't get your hopes up, I tend to fail to finish my projects.

Anyways.

One thing I remember about The Sims 3 was how disappointing Sunset Valley was, only Goths were the actual "returning" families I can think of (along with Bachelors and Langerak), but that's it.. just 3 families I could think off. I remember seeing that before the release, there was a "very incorrect" but very "interesting" version of Sunset Valley with families like Mama Lothario, the newbies, etc., families from Sims 2 and 1 that never made it to Sims 3.. I'd love to re-create that neighborhood, but the problem is, I do not have the sufficient skills to make a nice sculpted neighborhood/town or paint it well (while buildings lots and designing the "appereance" I can handle)

So...
- Anyone has any idea how to keep myself "from giving up"
- Anyone would be intrested in helping me out with sculpting?
- Do you think I'm too ambitious, or should I go green light on it?
---
Is that a no then?

Guess not :P

Really, guess not, I thought this forum would be much more active than it seems. :/

Anyways, I originalyl wanted to have Strangetown on the north, with Downtown, Pleasantview, OldTown, SimVille (Neighborhood 1 from Sims 1), and bits of Sunset Valley layout all in one, but guess no one cares which is quite sad :/ guess I am a bit ambitious. Well then, does anyone know good alternatives, I really hate Sunset Valley.

Yes, it probably is too ambitious, and unnecessarily so. With Twallan's Traveller mod, it is not necessary to make all-in-one neighborhoods. You can make a series of descrete neighborhoods and travel to and from them using the Traveller mod.

What you really are asking for is five neighborhoods. Strangetown is already in the works by at least a couple creators. Pleasantview has been done and redone. There is a nice remake of Riverblossom HIlls. I believe the others have yet to be done. What you are asking for is a huge project and could take years to make. Instead, I would suggest that you start with ONE of these neighborhoods and learn how to use the tools. Downtown might be one of the easier ones to make, aside from the fact we do not have functioning restaurants at the moment.

Also, keep in mind that world builders are bombarded on a daily basis with requests for worlds from people who have a "great idea" for a world, but don't believe it is worth their time and trouble to build it. The people who have gone through the time an trouble to learn how to do it usually have pleny of "great ideas" for worlds of their own, otherwise they would not have taken the trouble to learn how to make them. I think you will find people will be willing to help you, but they will not be willing to make it for you.

If you really just want an "alternative sunset valley", you don't need to worry about terrain building at all... there's a blank template version of the town that came with CAW. That might be a good place to start learning the ropes with CAW :) Doing the road layout and making all the lots and families you mention is plenty of work in itself.

I'm sure you're aware that many of the TS1/2 families you mention DO have EA-made versions in other neighborhoods, though. The Brokes and Don Lothario are in Riverview, for instance, and the Curious family is in Twinbrook.

I know, but it's not the same, I'd much prefer to have them in all one place, and while magic's Old Town re-make is somewhere, it's not ready.

Well, does anyone have any good links to a good-looking Pleasantview/Old Town? I don't really care about Riverblossom since I barely ever played there anyways.

And I have decided to use C-A-W, but I just have such dififculty finding a good way of starting.

And even with Traveler mod from Twallan, that mod is not yet ready or compatible with Pets anyways

Simple solution: Round up all the former game Sims from the towns within your game and put them into one town! Problem? It shouldn't matter too much what the town is like but if you're looking for a TS1 town, there IS one available already made by CTNutmegger. The Exchange is full of "remade" Sims from the former games. There are various Strangetown versions up the wazoo and the aforementioned Pleasantview remakes.

So...

#1. You're the only one who has the power to make yourself complete a project. If it's important enough to you, you WILL finish it. I've been working on my world for going on two years now because first off it took me a long time to learn to use the tool properly and then for the past year my time has been severely limited. It's something I really want to do, though, so I keep plodding along with it.

#2. If you want a world badly enough you'll bang your head against a brick wall if that's what it takes to learn CAW. Many times I walked away from my computer in frustration but in the end went back. I've redone practically every pixel of my world at least a half-dozen times but oh well. I've learned a lot and perhaps it will help if I decide to build any other worlds.

#3. If you have to ask then the answer is probably yes to the first, and no to the last. Again, it all depends on how badly you want it.

Yeah, I pretty much gave up on making it, I even tried creating a Sim Lane on that hill where Alto's/Landgraab's live, but it didn't work out at all.

I'm downloading CTNutmegger's version, gonna be a while since i'm gonna need to update it to latest version (add lots from other expansion packs)
