besides being a bit disgusted that the bistro gave my sims gourmet fish chow a win...

i have found no glitches. the animals are sims with motives.

the longer your sim watches an animal in the wild - the longer its hidden skill wilderness goes up. the more like animals will approach it.

i chose to arrange my town differently (sunset valley)
- putting cat park near library -
dog park near community pool
and all horse stuff up on the hill where altos and laandgraabs live - i evicted those families and put them into the
suburbs with everyone else.

i browsed through some of the xml tuning and found this

a paraphrase::

- Unicorns favorite residential lots value= 3
allowed on community lots = false
this means they will be on roads and hills to get their excercise.

wild horses and unicorns love fresh water and lots of trees.
in sunset valley - my sims house is on the corner across from hospital
next to community pool and Roomies household.

house has lots of trees and a pond. - in the xml there is a number value for eachtree.
using edit town and adding water and willow trees aspen - will allow more choices for horses and unicorn.

the raccoon works theifs hours and prefers the trash of wealthy sims. and restaurants.

deer need playtime romps in grassy free areas. and fresh water. and gardens.

i am a beginner modder - perhaps i will think tank some more.

modless techniques: freak out til tranquil, gate your garden , gate your trash, don't let your sims watch any animals and just know theres a lot more untrained inappropriate animals out there.

about strays
cats like city dwellers and bookish sorts
dogs like familiy-oriented outdoorsy folks.
horses like fresh water and gardeners.
deer are shy - loners - excitable.
raccoon and unicorn like lifetime learning wishes like jack of all trades and renaissance sim. - wishes also influenced by commitment-issues trait. BORN FREE

wild animals lose their habitat - and then show up in the random urbanite areas.

i would like a raccoon that is actually a skunk, a cat that can be trained like a dog.
a dog that knows how to read.

these are observations are drawn from sim play and xml I've glanced at.

amazing enough - when I put a horse paddock on my lot - in hopes for unicorn compost, the unicorn never came back.
