View Full Version : Yet another Ice Cream Truck Thread...

Yes, by now anybody who has played the new Pets game has undoubtedly noticed the Ice Cream truck incessantly following your Sim, whether to their workplace, the park, or even parking outside their house at 4AM. Quite stalkerish.

I've also noticed, understandably, that not to many people are keen on a potentially malicious or predatory ice cream van, driven by an unseen creep hiding behind tinted window panes and a cheerful suggestion of frozen treats.

However, I'm one of the few that like such a sinister idea...I mean it's not any worse than mods to shoot, maim, set fire to, or otherwise torture your Sims, and many casual Sim fans do it all on their own without any customizations.

The problem is the van looks too cheerful. I want my sims to live in fear of a murderous ice cream man, and the van has to look the part. I'd like to make the creep in CAS, and gift him with a CAST'd jet black ice cream van.

(TL;DR starts here)

This leads to the main point...Is there any way I can find the Ice Cream truck in-game currently, or is it like the food truck, where it awaits unlocking in the games files by a modder more skilled then myself?

Since this isn't a request thread, if I can't find it in-game I'll happily anticipate the inevitable -- I imagine unlocking the van is relatively easy, I would do it myself if i had a capable computer. Sadly, I do not...sigh...

The truck is available for cloning in s3oc...but not in game...if ya wanna give it a new look. Can't tell ya tho how or if it would work in game since I haven't looked at it.

I'd take your question to the Modding forums under Create :)

Your post reminds me of this:

To edit the icecream truck, I'm pretty sure you can find it with s3oc. I don't know if you use that or TSRW, but s3oc has a lot of objects that are not in TSRW.

To unlock it in game, I am not sure if that is possible to recolor it. It might be something where you have to use s3oc to recolor it there and have it as a default replacement.

and SINCE this is now a modding discussion, moving the thread there :)

I would do it by simply changing the dds image(s) on the ice cream truck and use this as default replacement. One of them, which I've used here, is titled carTruckIceCreamDet_ and can be found in the Fullbuild0_p10 in the Pets installation. I haven't actually found the yellow siding on the truck though; but it has to be somewhere.

This can be done by simply exporting the IMG file with s3pe, keeping the same file name on it all the way through, change it in Gimp or Photoshop, import into a new .package which becomes a default replacement mod.

First person to identify the easter egg in my screeny wins an ice fudgie!

Clone the file with s3OC.
Start a new project(any car will do) in TSRW.
Go to project contents and delete all the files you see(right click and delete)
When done choose import from package and import the package you cloned with s3OC.
Now you have the icetruck in 3d view and can update mesh and textures.

However, if you want to replace the textures you have to do this first in the meshtab, not in the design(texture)tab.

Most liklly the prop editor pops up when editing the texture in the meshtab.
If so then close the editor and delete the texture file. then add it again so you dont have the prop but just one texturefile

edit,
just checked the truck, it will be a bit difficult as it has 2 texture setups but doable,
Group 2 has a extra textureprop next to the original one.
It is UVmapped on the same spot but gets repositioned by its material settings(3,03913384E-05; 0; 0 instead of the default 3,00463271E-05; 0; 0 diffuse UV selector)
TSRW isn't updated yet to display this correct in its 3d preview but they will show correct ingame.

Instead of doing all this you better take both the overlays and multipliers and combine each into one then color them.
Those 2 overlay files will then overrule the 2 recoulour designs the game uses on the truck.
i have include a file with those 2 if you can not figure it out.
