It sounds like Spore meets The Sims.

There's a game called Space Colony... That's what it sounds like you're describing.

You can't make your own character, but out of the premade characters, they describe just about every personality. You pick a planet, and some planets are more based on a living simulation, and others are more based on survival skills. There are alien attacks, you have to "harvest" nutrients and supplies, and you get to build a "house" for them (even though it's more like space dome attached to another space dome) and have them communicate and whatnot. They have needs (hunger, social, energy, etc) and if their fun and social needs drop too much, they need to be sent to this thing that you can buy, and they pretty much stay there until they are sane. They speak English, which it's kinda interesting when they talk, since they actually say "Hey, what's up?" and whatnot.

The article even says it's similar to The Sims!

I just checked it out with a clip on YouTube. There's something off about it. I'm not liking the way the little people look nor the music. It looks like they borrowed quite heavily from The Sims and Spore.

It looks like they borrowed quite heavily from The Sims and Spore. Well it was released in 2003 (that was before The Sims 2) so computer graphics weren't as "advanced" then. And if they did borrow from The Sims and Spore, nobody else did, so I'm sure people didn't care.

Space Colony was hilarious and there was quite an active modding community for the game but it is quite old now. Not really a substitute for the sims.

I can't even begin to imagine what the Sims 4 would be like...

Someone needs to go punch will wright for abandoning spore, I could see something like this in its future, if it was continued

EDIT: I literally laughed out loud when i saw there was one agree and one disagree.

He has an upcoming project called HiveMind that supposedly "collects data" about you and creates a game modeled after that... I guess you could tell the game you live in space.

That would be neat. I could tell the game I'm Twoface, live in a black and white Saboteur steampunk world with whoever I feel like putting in it, have harem, and I talk like this, "I'lllll gives ya a chancesssha, kid, but right now ohm gonna hafe to shoot ya." That would be fun, but it will probably really involve you entering your birthdate, name and what not into their computer, and having a picture of your fish drawn over some sort of generic sim. Booooring. Hivemind is probably his great money stealing mastermind scheme.

What if in Sims 4 it was about a world with a bunch of nations and continents on it? You know, like, you could choose what country you could live on, what town and what street? Even though that might be too big of a game for a computer . . .

They could do that with small scaled down stuff like France or China in Sims 3.

It could be done with inactive simulation (don't try searching that, it is a term only i use), although just the templates would take up MASSIVE hard disk space, and a game like that would be confusing to play. Although if it was executed perfectly, imagine something like an extremely drawn out civ stage in spore, that is actually fun, and has a shocking amount if depth if you look. EA has a nasty habit of crushing good ideas from will wright, so don't expect to see anything soon that has a good idea that sticks form start of devolpment to final release. I personally think that Will Wright should break off and start his own company. Imagine the games they could crank out without EA constantly looming over them telling them what they can't do.

Quite old??? QUITE OLD?!?!?!?!

why are you callin' a seven year old game old and inactive? I used to assume the same for AoE II, until I found AoK heaven. Don't ever assume a game is old and inactive unless if you have looked, and you have seen there is nothing.

is it just me or is that REALLY creepy?

Maybe because I bought and played it seven years ago. And I've bought an awful lot of games since then and played them too. I'm not saying it wasn't a good game - it was and I enjoyed it immensely but gaming has moved on somewhat since.

As for inactive, I can assure you it isn't. I still hear from contacts in the modding community for that game and people are still making scenarios for it, albeit not too many. A lot of them are still holding out for Space Colony 2 - now THAT would be good news.
