View Full Version : Toddler Glitch - No Solutions Work

I was playing through a sim family normally when I had suddenly noticed one of the Sims on my lot suddenly disappeared. I did some research and discovered that there was a glitch where if a nanny or invited Sim leaves while holding your baby/toddler, they can essentially kidnap it, and decided that this is what probably happened since both the nanny and another Sim were over at the time. I was unsure what to do as I didn't feel like having to reset my lot after not having saved for a while, but someone said that if you save the lot and come back to it, the baby/toddler will be by the mailbox. I did so, but none of my other Sims (father, mother, two sons) could interact with the toddler lying there. The options would come up, but they would not be able to perform them. I myself was not able to select my toddler, so I could not get her to move either.
I've tried many different things to try to get the family to be able to interact with her again, such as deleting her using moveobjects on and leaving the lot after saving, moving the family out of the lot and back into it, and tampering with any relevant boolprop testingcheatsenabled actions. I also tried to use the suggested 99.9% solution instructions on this website, but it does not seem to help with anything either.

is your game patched?

I installed the patch, but the toddler Sim is still unselectable to me and the family still does the "jump" reset when they try to interact with her. Some other details I didn't put in my first post are that when I do move them into the lot, the toddler levitates in front of her mother in a lying down position, where ever the mother walks the toddler moves with her, and she cannot do anything except walk. But when I have her try to interact with the levitating child, she is automatically set down and the mother sim is fully playable again, but the toddler still glitched. Also, when looking at the family from the neighbourhood screen my toddler doesn't have an aspiration meter.

I have two thoughts.
1. It doesn't sound like you've tried moving the family to a new lot entirely. If the lot they're on now is glitched (eta: rather, corrupted), moving them in and out of it won't fix anything.
2. More likely, unfortunately, it's the toddler who's glitched. Sounds like her character file has been corrupted. I don't know what, if anything, can be done, if that's the case.
ETA: By the way, playing an unpatched game is very ill-advised. If you only just installed the one patch you were hoping would fix this issue, does that mean other parts of your game remain unpatched? That's not good. If you have any of the combo pack editions (Double Deluxe, etc.), you're fine on those since they're supposedly pre-patched. But any standalone editions - base game or EP (or Family Fun Stuff SP) - need to be patched.

I did try moving them to an entirely new lot before I began posting, same results. And if her character file is somehow corrupted, is there any way I can somehow get rid of her without deleting the entire family? I suppose I could just let her die though...
As for playing with the unpatched game, any other problem I've had until now I've been able to solve within the game itself. Even though I've had the game for some time, I never really got that into it until recently, so I had no idea about the patches. From the link above I downloaded and installed the CD/DVD one, it looks like it'll stop something like this happening again.

But see, you're thinking about patches as being solutions for problems that may come up now and then, but that's not really accurate. Patches generally prevent problems, and a lot of existing problems aren't going to be solved by patching. Nonetheless, you need to patch the base game and every EP (plus FFS SP) you have installed, if you have the single-editions of these. (One exception is that the NightLife patch includes the Uni fixes, so if you have NL and Uni, you only need the NL patch for those two).
The reason you want to always patch your game is that a couple of the EPs shipped with potentially game-killing glitches that are silent. You will not see them coming until it's too late, and resetting your 'hoods (or starting over, in the case of a custom 'hood) is your only option.
Patches are extremely important, but I don't think not being patched is the reason you're having trouble with this toddler. Character file corruption can occur in a great many ways, and whether or not one is patched isn't usually the issue.
I'm not sure what the best way to deal with this toddler might be, but one possibility is this: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,6205 . Never tried it myself, but I trust the man who designed the process. Looks complicated, but I've had people assure me it's much easier than it looks.

Then you're as patched as you need to be, at this point.
As for the toddler, I don't know... Ignore her and see what happens? ;)

The social worker comes and herself gets glitched to the spot for a few sim hours... then later comes again and the family cries because she manages to remove the toddler the second time somehow.
Then I tried to see what would happen if I did absolutely nothing except press the fast forward button while the house was barren. Everyone dies but the toddler, the social worker is stuck next to her without doing anything, and my game does not let me exit to the neighbourhood or even close the game itself (I play it in a window rather than full screen). I rebooted my computer and everything was back to the previous glitch though...

I think I'd replay the Social Worker scenario and save the next time she succeeds in taking the toddler away, and see if the lot would play normally afterward.

Yeah, I figured that would be my only solution... It took her about 5 tries to do it though before she finally teleported her away. The rest of the family doesn't seem to have been affected in any way, save for the crying. The toddler is now "reincarnated", albeit with different eyes and hair.

Glad it more or less worked out.
