View Full Version : Does this not meet the requirements of being unique?

I created this house, which took me about 5 hours. It's been rejected because I didn't put an eye level picture (which I couldn't because of the size of the damn thing! It's on a 64x64 lot, and is just about as wide), and apparently, according to the powers that be, it's just overall bad, and not unique. Can I just ask how many houses anybody has uploaded here, that have 5+ car spaces, 9 bedrooms all en-suite, and an elevator? Is the roof really that bad? Please let me know, because I'm going to upload it to the sims exchange anyway.

Well, we did not say it was overall bad - we just said that you need to read the guidelines as your pics were small, the roof is NOT good, its a boxy floor plan with acres of empty space - and its all default cast.

I don't even know where to begin giving feedback on this house, so you can upload it here but then, I'm not sure if that's what you're asking for or not. This house is a prime example of why I never download anything from the exchange. Anyone can make a bunch of boxes and slap the first wallpaper and floor they come to and autoroof and plunk a few trees down and call it an object of awesomeness. You can tell you didn't put much time and effort into the house. Its big. Its empty. Minimal landscaping. The rooms, beside being empty are all monochromatic, the floors and the walls the same color. The outside of the house is all the same, nothing to break it up and The roof is way too high.

Please let me remind you that this forum is for getting feedback for your work to improve it, when you plan to upload to -this- site. The forum is not for wondering why you got rejected, and making posts about that. If you feel your rejection message has been unclear, please post in the Creator Issues Forum.

So before I'm gonna give you any feedback on the house, I would like to know if you plan on fixing any issues you have been pointed on your rejection message, and if you plan to upload here after doing the changes?

robbo316,

Did you use a blueprint to make your house? I find that blueprints are the best way to make a house since it gives you a bit of a guideline. If you are making a house from a different country or a house that you are unfamiliar with, blueprints also help get the basic guidelines down for it.
Here are some sites that may help you out:
House Plans (http://www.thehousedesigners.com/)
Home Plans (http://www.homeplans.com/)
Dream Home Source (http://www.dreamhomesource.com/)
House Plans and More (http://houseplansandmore.com/)

I also find this guy (http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1311246DF0C73DB9&feature=plcp) very helpful when it comes to building.

Regarding the house you created, I think it looks quite nice. It might help to play around with the landscaping, especially in the back yard. If you need help with the landscaping, I would suggest these tutorials:
Landscaping in Sims 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie-xIk26F4Y)
Landscaping Mega Tutorial Pt. 1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuhtlVkPtlk)
Landscaping Mega Tutorial Pt. 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZbsohX7KWU)
Landscaping Mega Tutorial Pt. 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbSO22b67A8)

Overall, I highly recommend SimSupply's video tutorials (http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSimSupply#grid/user/41E39EF911B740D9).

Hopefully some of these tutorials will help you out. Good luck with getting your house uploaded. :bunny:

I completely understand your feelings, but just take some time to consider and be back here to get some advice. MTS is a more challanging place to upload. I have built a few big houses myself, it's hard and demands more from you. I don't know about you, but I like to improve. That's why I upload here anyway.

... but such a big house? You must be an american with a 5 car park!? I don't wanna be too negative, but if you wanna upload here make it much smaller ... and get ready for improving with feedback. Bigger lot means more to improve on.

Take a look at my houses and see if you think I used 5 hours on it? 5 hours is nothing.

Here are some suggestions:

-kitchen is way too big. Make it smaller and add only one dining-room.
-i can't see any flowers inside your house. Add some!
-yes the roof is really bad. Try some more variety of roofs. And make it lower, much lower.
-rooms are too big, you can leave them as they are, but you need to add more furniture.
-you should consider add more textures to your facade, combine wooden with stone/masonry

Don't take rejection too personally, my last object was rejected three times.

Unfortunately when it comes to building houses, you do not have to share everything. I got like 20 lots on my harddrive for sims 3, but I have only uploaded one. Criticism is hard to take esp when you spend time making something. If I don't wanna hear it, then I don't share it, that's my policy. If you really want feedback, let us know. But I'll throw in my 2 cents just them same.
1. Landscaping - it's tiresome, I know, we all love to hate it. Try adding some dirt around the play area so that it looks used. Also put some dirt around the plants to represent garden soil. You might limit your 'mowed' lawn to a smaller area and mix it up with regular grass.

2. Size - I have no problem with the size, but if you are going to make something that big, then you have to do the work and fill it up so that the size makes sense. There are many objects, esp decorative ones, use them. Make the house fun to play. Or create unique rooms eg...lab, rump room, art studio, gallery, etc.

3. roofs - for me the roof over the pool is too heavy and ruins the beauty. Use different types and levels of rooms for each section to enhance the beauty and make it less boxy.

4. Painting - the wall paint of the outside of the house could use a trim or blend to enhance the features of the house. the way it is, is just toooo stark.

and that's all she wrote.

Let me ask you a question:
What is a house? Is it not a series of boxes of differing shapes and sizes?

Unfortunately, I do like things to match. In my own home I have my main bedroom, with light blue walls and a light blue carpet. When I moved in, I redecorated, because that's what you do when you buy a house. I have in the past downloaded lots and then redecorated the rooms to my own personal style. It usually takes me about.....3 minutes! Unfortunately, I don't have unlimited time to devote to this, because I run my own business, which most days takes around 15-20 hours out of my day. In response to someone else's comment, this is based on an actual architects drawing, the architect is a friend of mine. I shall have to tell him when I see him on New Years Eve, that his house is a bad design, according to people who play a computer game. I shall, in future, forget about uploading because I don't have the time, to make it so wonderfully perfect as you would like. By the way, this is not me having a little hissy fit, before anybody say it is. I am just stating fact. Peto Abyssus.
I just looked through your lots, and I don't particularly like the style of them. BUT, it is what is called personal preference. Do you UNDERSTAND??

In other words: No, you don't want feedback on the lot to help you improve it and get it accepted. As such, this thread doesn't belong here, so I'll close it.
