I wish to occasionally look at "trending" items. I have changed to double column view, have "featured" items visible, but don't see trending stuff. If I am NOT logged in, MTS does show me "trending" items. Puzzled.

As far as I am aware, trending items only exist as a concept on the homepage. In the Downloads browser, they have nothing to distinguish them from other items, and show up as normal uploads. Unless you mean Picked uploads?

What does the trending mean? Is that items that are experiencing a surge in downloads?

I'm confused - what do you mean you can't see trending stuff? The *only* place that appears is the front page... There's no "Trending" option for the Downloads browser...

My homepage is set to Downloads, maybe that's the problem.
Yes! When I set homepage to "none", I see the front page, and that shows trending items.

As Inge asked, does trending mean uptick in downloads? I've only seen recently uploaded items there. Would old stuff that's being downloaded lots recently for some reason show up too?

You mean like the 7 pages of recent updates on male swimwear Cat? :p .

Yes, and what an excellent example, leefish! ;) Trending only shows four items, right?

Trending is defined as the highest thanked downloads within the past 2 days. This is not limited to only recent threads, only recent thanks counts, so it's entirely possible for an older upload to be trending.
