I'm trying to build some raised townhouses, i've used tutorials to build the raised foundations but now i cannot seem to join the separate levels of foundation together, it comes up 'cannot level terrian'....is there a way to fix this?
I've got a picture of the problem but i can't work out how to insert it....i'm not a computer whiz so don't understand all this HTML stuff...

Without pictures, it's difficult to help you.
Click on the "Go Advanced" button. Type in your message.
Look for the section labeled "Manage Attachments".
Follow the instructions in that section to attach your images.
Click on "Submit Reply".

Yes, the image is there. However, it's so tiny that it's very hard to see. Would it be possible to attach a larger picture?

you need to attach the snapshot version, not the thumbnail, snapshots are bigger

In the interim, I'd like to suggest a potential solution.
From what I can see, you are starting the new foundation away from the house and then dragging it towards the house. Try the other way around: start the new foundation at the house and drag away from the house.

i tried that, the foundation ended up the same height as the one i was dragging it from :/

Exactly what do you expect to occur between the sections? Do you want the foundation to be sloped? Do you expect to see two different elevations with a wall between them? The game is just telling you that it can't join two different elevations without one of the above. (see attached)
If you want a sloped foundation between the two areas, then turn constrainFloorElevation off and the game should allow you to create the slope. (option 1)
If you want two different elevations which touch, with a wall between them, then you'll need to create the foundation at the lowest level of the set that you have, and then create new levels for each new elevation. (option 2) Note that these new levels will not be 16 clicks high, so they will not be weather proof and will not properly accept doors and windows. You should also be aware that each additional level requires additional processing time, so lots with more levels will run slower.
You might want to rethink your design.
You can just leave the townhouses with a space between them, similar to Bella's Belles Townhomes:

Alternatively, you could just have all of the foundations at the same elevation.
Unless I'm missing something, those are all of your options.
