Okay, so, my game was having a ton of major issues, so I followed some advice and changed the name of my game folder (Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3) to OLDThe Sims 3, and started my game to allow a brand new vanilla file to be created. After loading, I quit, had my vanilla file, and went about moving my info from OLDThe Sims 3 to the new file. I thought I had moved everything I needed to, but I'm guessing I didn't because of a few things:
1. Although I own every expansion pack so far, only Pets and World Adventures exist in my game now. That is to say, vampires are no longer vampires, professions do not exist, sims cannot graduate, etc. Also, all expansion pack hairs/clothes/etc. no longer exist (except for Pets and WA). To sum it up, it is as if I do not own Late Night, Generations, or Ambitions.
2. My saved households, empty houses, and community lots no longer exist.
So far, these are the only differences I've noticed. My saves are intact, as is my world.
I don't want to switch back to my OLDThe Sims 3 file (I did make a backup), because the new file seems to be much healthier and my game is no longer unplayable.
My best guess is that I failed to transfer over an important file or two. Anyone have a guess? Thanks in advance. (I'm on a Mac, obviously).
UPDATE: I was able to restore my saved households, empty houses, and community buildings by moving a file from my OLDThe Sims 3 file over to my new one. I also tried opening Late Night directly (one of the missing in action expansion packs) and it prompted me that Late Night needed an update. Okay... so I updated, and Late Night is again working in game. I could not get Ambitions to prompt me for an update, so I found a manual link to update that brought Ambitions back on line. I'm now struggling to find a manual update link for Generations that is compatible with Mac, but can't find one. Anyone know of one? I tried a .tgz file that was for the patch for Generations, but it didn't work.
