I have possibly concocted the answer to custom meshes.
We know there are custom morphs, and that you cannot remove/add vertices when meshing or making morphs.
So what if we used morph targets in the 3d modelling program to change the shape of the mesh entirely, then re-align the skeleton and then use it as a morph. We could then use custom non-replacement skin tones for textures.
I think it is the answer we've been looking for.
