I've read tons of tutorials and setting options but my game will not record in HD. Every recording I make is in 640x480. I have changed my sims3.ini settings to the correct settings and then replaced the original file. I replaced base game file. Then I read to add it to the last expansion pack. In my case Showtime. Even before showtime I haven't been able to record in HD. I even tried to play the game without full screen so I can change the file while in game. I have all expansion packs for Sims3. My monitor size is 1680x1050

Here are my settings for the Sims3.ini file:

[VideoRecording]
LowQuality = video:vp6, audio:adpcm, fps:10.0, bitrate:1000
MediumQuality = video:vp6, audio:adpcm, fps:15.0, bitrate:2000
HighQuality = video:vp6, audio:adpcm, fps:30.0, bitrate:4000
MaxQuality = video:rgb24, audio:pcm, fps:30.0, bitrate:0
Small = 320, 0
Medium = 640, 0
Large = 1720, 0
VideoFolder = Recorded Videos
SnapshotsFolder = Screenshots

Any help would be great! thanks

Instead of using the game's built in camera you should try using something like FRAPS or Hypercam. But all of these will record everything on the screen like pause button, etc. I have the Sims 2 so I'm not sure how the Sims 3 camera works but the Sims 2 camera isn't that great, but I've heard the Sims 3 camera is better. You should try FRAPS, Hypercam, any screen recording program besides the built in.
Hope it helps!

[VideoRecording]

Large = 1720, 0

In "Large" you should put:

Large = 1280, 720

or other HD formats.
Then, in game, in the recording options you should choose the large video capture. After that you should have no problems...

This was what I learned reading tutorials, hope that works for you.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't notice this was for Sims 3.

changing to fraps did not correct this for me, but you need to change Large as mentioned above
And ensure your options settings in game video is 16:9
AND make sure you copy that ini file to all expansions' bins.

Yeah. Fraps should help.. before using it, my videos were very crappy and fuzzy.. but once I started using Fraps, it was beautiful.

If you don't want to spend money on a program like that, as everyone has said above, make sure your game resolution matches your monitor resolution, and if you want excellent quality recordings.. make sure you are recording in High (Uncompressed) Video Quality. :)
