Hey there! In conjunction with my "retro" computer that I'm about to set up, I thought I would try to install the old Sims 1 and see if it still ran okay. It runs great but the resolution is poop. I was wondering if any of you still have it running and if so, do the graphics get better with the later expansion packs? I just don't remember it looking quite this bad. Of course the screen I am using is much larger now which is also a factor. I just wondered if there was a way this would still be playable? I still love the way they talk!

As far as I recall graphics didn't improve with the later expansion packs for Sims 1, but mind you.. It's been ~10 years since I played it! ^__^
A lot of old games look terrible nowadays xD It's really hard to look at so big pixels when you've gotten used to the smoothness of now..

I have "The sims Complete Collection" and I did play it on a computer from 08. Looked quite good (it's a old game) but I don't remember what resolution I had. I did take a look at the "System requierments" and it's only says: Video card must have 4 MB or more memory and must be capable of displaying 800x600 resolution in 16-bit color. I'm sure TS1 is a good game but I do not play it now (got a little dissapointed that the lots only could be rotated in 4 fixed angles, maybe a little spoiled whit TS2's wieving possibilities).
Off topic: Sims 2 looked better at my old CRT screen that it did and does on my LEDs.

For my Complete collection, I can either run it in 800X600 or 1024X768. If I run it in windowed mode though it will disable the aero theme, so you'll need to re-enable that after you play.

I find that returning to TS1 after being used to TS2 is headache inducing and rather boring since you can't zoom in and get a nicer view. I gave my copy of the game to a friend who lost hers.

I can only play it at 800x600 and 1024x768 but a quick Google confirms that there are "windowed mode" programs that can hack a "stretched" window.

On mine it seems like the house and items within all look fine, very nice and smooth. But the sims themselves are all jagged looking. I was using an old installer. Is the "complete collection" a newer remaster of it? Do your sims look smooth using that version?

Smoother? Come on, the jagged stance is part of the nostalgia, man.

Where does the Sims 1 store its screenshots? I've been playing my copy of the Complete Collection off and on and I can't find them anywhere!
(And speaking of Sims 1, it's strange how different Ginia Kat's house is from the one that Tara Kat is shipped with in Sims 2, even though it's supposedly the same house. Tara definitely could have benefitted from that usuable second floor in my game, especially after she was abducted and gave birth to twin space-kittens  )
