Missing map buttons / pins

Hello there, the problem that i'm having is one with disappearing buttons / map markers within the game. If i travel to a china ect the problem rectifies itself but if i remember correctly it is caused when i enter into the building mode of the game. I haven't played for a while as i could not patch the game as my game is not in the default directory, with the new expansion i thought it would patch the problem but it has not.

I have no mods at all.
I would also like to know if there is a command that could be used to refresh the GUI or to reload certain UI components. This would probably fix the issue.

Nope but i have now. The actual FAQ seems to be referring to a HUD bug where the actual HUD does not work. In my problem, all of the elments of the HUD work apart from one. I might have to repackage my sim and move somewhere else because it's becoming hard to do certain things.

Does it occur only in this one save? If you're not opposed to using mods, you could try Twallan's Error Trap, not sure if that could fix the problem but maybe worth a try.
