Quick question-
I have a family where I had to hire a nanny one day. Usually I hate to do this, since most nannies are (insert curse word of choice)-y in my experience. But this particular nanny happened to be pretty good, so I'm just wondering-
Will moving her in corrupt anything?I want to have her on full-time (even when the parents are home) to help out, but I don't want to risk losing this neighborhood, as it is my favorite.

If you move her in you'll still have to control her so if it is a VBT you should just make a CAS sim that appears to look like a nanny and move her in.

I'll go look on another thread if its a VBT or not.

Edit: According to this thread http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=349317 it says its okay to move her in :)

Nannies are Service NPCs but they are also "Social NPC" as well, they are able to not only care for the children but their relationship with all members of the household can rise to a pretty good percent rate like 100%
Therefore they can be added to the household if ask to move in option is there. Once they move in they will lose their title as a service NPC and become a regular sims in the household. Not to worry the game will always replace them with another NPC Nanny.

Here a link that tell you that you can add a nanny to the household : http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/nanny You can always make an elder in create a sims and add her to the household to care for the children as well.

Just becareful of trying to add certain NPCs that are Non Social NPCs these are a No, No
1. Reaper, Repo Man, Social Worker, Drivers, Sim Shrink and others depend on the expansions you may have.

Also, before moving her in, make sure to back up your neighborhood.

how do you that?

Go to the EA Games folder in My Documents. Find the number of the appropriate hood. If you don't know the number of your neighborhood, you can open each hood's folder, open the storytelling folder, and look at the pictures to see what characters you see; then make a note. N001 is Pleasantview, N002 is Strangetown, N003 is Veronaville, N004 is the default name given to your first custom hood.

Copy the entire neighborhood folder.

Go to a different location, one you know you can find again (I have a folder called Simstuff). If it's on an external drive, so much the better. Paste.

Done.

So if the neighborhood gets corrupted you can use that to uncorrupt it or replace it or something?

how do you that?

@>> StrangeTownChick If you are asking how to "Back Up" your game follow these steps as follow:

1. Open your MY Document folder
2. Open the EA Games Folder ( yellow color folder )
3. Right-Click on The Sims 2 Folder and choose Copy or you can just copy the EA Games folder, you still will get the Sims 2 folder inside of it.
4. Close the window
5. Right- Click on a space on your desktop ( or Laptop ) and choose Paste, it then will right away copy your Sims 2 folder.
That extra Folder once copy will be your BACK UP save it on your computer or just keep it on your desktop or Laptop screen.

Note : If you should add more lots or Sims to your game or your neighborhood have change within the Sims household.
Like now they have kids or now the kids are teen or are now in college as your game progress always keep or make New Back Up. that way you will not lose where you are at in your game.

Also it is good to keep a Back Up if you should have to uninstall your game for some reason and with your backup you can replace where you are at in your game.

Now you may ask if this should happen how do I replace with my back up ?

To Restore Your Data ( or Sims 2 ) do as follow:
1. Right- Click on the BackUp The Sims 2 Folder and choose Copy.
2. Open your My Documents folder
3. Right- Click on the EA Games folder and choose Paste
4. You should recieve a message asking if you would like to replace the current files.
Choose YES.
5. Allow the coping to finsh.

Now when you go back into your Sims game the Backup will have you start right where you left off in your game. That mean you will not start over from zero, after building up your neighborhood with your Sims. This is one of the reason you should ALWAYS back up your Sims game. I hope this will be of help to you. Good idea to copy these instructions for your personal use. :)

@ Peni Griffin > Yes I agree I have an external harddrive they are the best for saving anything you need to save on your computer. I could not do without my external drive.

I have a brand new computer with a really good amount of hardrive space, but I still use my external drive information going in and out of it is so easy to tranfer. :)

Moving in service NPCs is okay - just don't move in anyone from the same family as Mrs. Crumplebottom(unless of course Bigfoot is in that family - he'd be the only exception I think). Basically anyone you cannot flirt with using the base game... though the gypsy matchmaker seems to be okay to move in using hacks. She may do the spit polish and she will be able to sell her wares even after moving in, but from what I read she is okay. So are the nannies though they will still be quite insane. Drama profs, mascots and cheerleaders will keep up their annoying behaviour and cheating of course, but they are safe I believe. Dunno about the streakers though - read somewhere that their character files get shredded when they are moved in. Witches I believe are okay as are the grand vampires, dunno about the pack leaders though :( too bad 'cause they're pretty dogs and it is kinda cute watching a child play razzle or fetch with a big, scary-looking wolf!

General rule of thumb: An NPC that can be moved in naturally, without resorting to cheats, is okay.

One known exception is the Social Worker. She can be befriended and moved in via Propose/Move In, but it is NOT safe to do so. No others I can think of share this problem.

True. There should be a mod that will prevent any sort of romantic socialization or making friends with the social worker. And I think that the gypsy matchmaker is the exception on the other side - she can be safely moved in despite her quirks and such, but I think my sims can find someone else to romance and woohoo. She's probably good for some socializing though.

By the way, which family is the social worker from, and do any safe playables come from that same family? Or are the social workers distributed randomly in different families? I may have to check this out using the Sim Blender tree.

Family? NPCs and townies don't have families.

Ah - secret SimPE stuff I know nothing about.

If you arrange people by "Household" in SimPE, Social Workers have none, a state they share with all the other sims classed as NPCs. This includes strays, newspaper delivery, nannies, maids, the Social Bunny, Repo Man, Cow Mascot, etc. Most of these people can be moved in, some with annoying behavior attached, but the Social Bunny has flashing blue lights all over spelling out "Bad Idea."

Townies are for the most part included in arbitrary households (Smith, Wolosenko, Garth). As far as I can tell, this is a convention allowing townies to start the game having relationships with other townies, though they have no family ties. The Tricou bastards (who do have family ties to each other) are all in the same household; but I only have one full-loaded neighborhood right now and can't check that this is consistent. Some of them have blank households and nothing leaps out at me as linking any of them to the NPC sims.

The social workers would be in the "Default" or "..." household? Or would it be "NPC"?

They are listed as type "NPC," which is not the same. If you look at the columns in SimPE, you can arrange them by name, household, type (Playable, NPC, Townie, Uneditable), age, GUID#, and a couple of other things I never bother with. Default is a household; so is a blank; I suppose that, confusingly, NPC might be, too, but that's easily checked and in any case NPC household and NPC type would not be the same thing, as if you click the option to show only NPCs, they all come from the blank household.

Ah ok. Yup, the 'summon' pie menu can be quite confusing.
