I always come back to TS2 because I don't find TS3 that fun. Also don't like the "legs apart" standing position of all Sims in TS3, no one stands like that
What do you find funny about TS3?

:faceslap: I don't find a dang thing funny in TS3, that is the problem!
O.K. Examples: My Sim is at a club in TS2, on a date, the game sends 3 or 4 of his girlfriends to that club, he gets busted...funny! In the corner the count is on a biting spree and bites many...oh, no! It's my favorite Sim over there! Funny!
A vamp hunter walks in, sees the count, he hates vampires! He beats the crap out of the Count..funny! The owner, my Sim running the club in the meantime is fried to a crisp while trying to fix the dishwasher, Funny! Mrs. Crumplebottom walks in and slaps everybody....
Benjamin and Goopy for some odd reason get in a fist bustin' fight while the Count is getting his butt kicked...Funny!
What is going on in my TS3 game..? I send my Sim to a community lot. Who shows up?..hardly anybody...what do they do when they get there? Read.
What does my Sim do, stops playing pool and runs off home. :faceslap:

Oh, in answer to your Title Question, I played TS2 from 2005 thru 2011. I put it away to go back and try to play TS3..had it since 6/2009 and arrgh I still don't like it. Bought two EPs, and some Store stuff and worlds..and "curses! I can't find any grogg on this island!" hehehehhe Sorry, that means I can't stand it hardly at all.

This is beginning to look like a trend. I played Sims 2 before Sims 3 and I just don't feel that TS3 lived up to TS2.

TS2, then played TS1 for a stint, played TS3 on and off, TS1 again, and now I'm back full-on to TS2 and SimCity4. I'm back hooomeeee!
I don't really find ANYTHING funny about TS3 to be honest - just annoying. Well, except for little moments of real that make me smirk like guys taking their drinks into the loo's with them. :Pint: :Pint:

I've played since the Sims...which I found charming and funny. I loved Sims 2 because of the unexpected funny things that happened all the time. I spent so much time playing Don Lothario and his various girlfriends. I'd move him in with one and another would constantly "stalk" him at her home, kick over the garbage bin, get into a screaming fist fight with his third girlfriend, all while Don stood by pulling his hair and jumping up and down. My sims would get abducted by aliens, fried by the TVs...all funny. Sims 3 is really pretty but I really just tend to build houses. Playing the sims is just boring repetition.

I played TS1, TS2 and TS3. I liked much about TS2, but I really like the visuals and the open hood in TS3. I love the aging of the townies/inactives. Most of all, I love the build mode and CAS.
I could never go back even though I am tempted sometimes. I use a lot of CC and at the end of TS2, I had all sorts of problems with my huge amounts of files. While I have a lot of CC for TS3, it is less because I don't need recolors of all my objects and hair.
Shouldn't this be a post on the TS2 forum though?

I played Sims 2 for little over a year before the hard drive died on the old computer and I bought my current one. The new one has an integrated graphics chip that couldn't handle Sims 2 even on low settings, but for some reason can handle Sims 3 on low settings.
I see a lot of similarities between Sims 2 and Sims 3, and also a lot of differences. I wish I could go back to Sims 2, but don't have the money for a new computer or actual graphics card.

I was introduced to TS1 by my grandpa (who was a game tester, awesome!) at the beginnings of it all. Once TS2 came out, I don't think I ever looked back, although I did miss all of the CC and EP content I had accumulated.
When TS3 came out, however, I tried it but just couldn't stick with it. I think I played for a couple of days before running back to TS2  I then stayed with TS2 for a couple of years, I think... By the time I decided to give TS3 another chance, there were already 2 or 3 EPs released, and creators were cranking out the CC so it was enough to keep me satisfied ;)
Now, even though I miss a lot of TS2, I just can't go back to the closed neighborhood / no progression play style, not to mention not being able to pick the shoes..! :faceslap:

I played TS2 for about 3 years before proceeding to TS3 in 201, and I kept all EPs and SPs installed on my PC for about 3 months after that, and sometimes played. I kept my huge CC folder even longer, before I took a dare to throw it into the trashbin without saving a copy.
I like TS3 better because of its aesthetics (graphics, open world, much more convenient object placement, CASt, realistic trees and water, beautiful sky, etc) - it has much more to offer for creativity.
Anyway, I find TS32 expansions fuller and more logical. I see, that when designing TS2 EPs, they wanted to make everythind lifelike and fun, and to throw in a bit of fantastic features 9like non-human creatures) to make it even more fun. However, when designing TS3 EPs, they thought "Well, we already had this in T@ work like that, it's a new game, we must change something to not be repetitive". And their changes usually work not that well.
Let's take one of my fave EPs from TS2, Nightlife. Everything was so real! There were restaurants with waiters and administrators, and you could order food and drink there. There were clubs, with DJs, and you could order a song, or become a DJ and play music. There also were vampires, date mini games, and much more fun stuff. And in TS3... you have several types of clubs and bars, but there are no DJs in Dance/disco clubs, HOW! You can't go to a proper restaurant any more, LAME! There can be music bands, cool, but no vocalists, LAME! Ok, we have Showtime now, and singers, an DJs, but singers can't join bands, STUPID!
EA, don't change the tings that were good! Just drop in something completely new, like horses in Pets.

i keep flitting between ts2 and ts3. and on a recent "holiday" (it was a hellish nightmare) to scotland to see my nana, i took my laptop, which is so old the only game it will run is ts1, but i had fun rediscovering it.
as SommarBlomma said, ts3 has some damn good features, but ts2 had the better content. if only we could move ts3's story progression, open world and the recolouring sytem over, ts2 would be the ultimate game! well...almost.
saying that, i find ts3 a lot more fun since i started doing the challenges. and the new badge system that a have intergrated gives it a little competative edge. i've been playing my xbox for too long, call something an achievement and i have the urge to go after it xD

I played TS2 before TS3 (and TS1 before that, but not even nearly to the same extent). I still remember buying TS2 when it came out! I love TS2 and there are tons of things in it that I prefer to TS3, but after playing TS3 I don't really feel that I could go back to TS2 - at least not *just* playing TS2. Although I do have a faster, better computer now, so a lot of the things that made me dislike TS2 might actually be a lot more bearable now, so who knows?

I've got all three installed, but TS2 gets a lot more playtime. It did take me about five years with TS2 to actually get to a point where I cared about the sims I'd made, so I can expect by...2015? to get to the same point with TS3. I'd miss the genetics system, dining in restaurants (with the associated animations like stealing a bite or surprise proposal), chance cards, and ownable businesses too much to ever completely switch over to TS3.

I've played TS2 before TS3 and frankly, TS2 was so smooth even with billions of CCs and the gameplay was alot of fun and very addictive!! But in TS3 -.- i swear it takes me more time to try to fix my game than actually playing it! i only install few mods and the game gets annoying because the game's performance is lame... and there's the list goes on and on...!!

I played the Sims 2 before the Sims 3 and thought it was great then I decided to get the Sims 3. I found the graphics were better on the Sims 3 and loved the open world. I then un-installed the SIms 2 and tried it again only a few weeks ago. I felt everything was cramped; the walls, the Sims and even the motives bar. Maybe my screen resoloution was playing up or something but I un-installed it again and went back to playing the Sims 3, even if I can only use store content 'cause my game lags :(
I ,unlike most people, find the game rather funny. Like when my Sim does a faceplant after getting squashed by the elevator

I first game was The Sims on my first PC =D
I was really addictive to The Sims and my mum was really angry I was playing too much games on the computer...
Secondly I had the Sims 2 and I was really, really addictive because of Home Business EP... I designed myself a McDonald restaurant and I really enjoyed that sooo much....
Sims 2 - New McDonald's Facility Tour *UPGRADED* ( With Employee's )
Well I no longer playing the Sims 2 because my saved files were completely buggered up and I lost all my created towns...
I designed my first cinema for The Sims 2 and that's when my saved files were buggered up :(
Sims 2 - Village Cinemas (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycNqLQV2bfg)
I was addictive of designing community lots =D
Finally I have The Sims 3 and I created my own active family on the Sims 3, and now I'm really addictive to The Sims 3, because of the graphics and stuffs. Well I miss The Sims 2 Business Pack and I wish EA will make Business EP for The Sims 3 =)...
Two Expansion packs I want EA to make are:
The Sims 3 - Business
The Sims 3 - Season
For The Sims 2 CC's. I had over 1000's of Custom Contents XD
For The Sims 3 CC's. I have at least 200 of Custom Contents :)
------
Ha SimCity4, was bloody addictive.... I was playing too much and my dad smacked me for playing the pc games too much...
That was long time ago =) I was too creative in that day XD

What do you find funny about TS3? Oh, you've got me with that one. :) After a really good think I have to say - not much. I mostly build stuff with it.
As for sims 2, I play it since it was first out and play it still for brilliant gameplay and very interesting, fully developed (unlike the sims 3) features, I play sims 1 as well from time to time.
Wanted to add something else about humour in these games - does anyone else sees the difference between items descriptions in buy and build mode in sims 2 and 3, or it's just me? I like to read them from time to time and noticed that sims 3 descriptions are blant and, well, give impression of their authors jumping out of their skin to appear funny but failing completely instead.

TS2 had a lot more humor and charm than TS3. Everything about it was just so darn cute. Even the game music seemed more charming. Teens were bubbly and cute with a bounce in their step, YA had a funny, slow slouchy walk which really does make me think of college students. When I fired up TS2 for the first time after a long while a few months ago, it seemed so much more fast-paced and energetic with a lot more going on as well. I hadn't even realized since I hadn't played TS2 for so long that even with the open-neighborhood, something about TS3 feels more lethargic. Sims don't seem nearly as responsive to things going on around them. The "cheated on" reaction in TS2 was definitely WAY more hilarious. I forget what the ghost reaction was (passing out with chance of instant death, I think?), but I think it made a whole lot more sense as well. TS3 sims see a ghost (or mummy), and the reaction is of disgust, "eeew". Seriously? Come on, it's a ghost, not a baby with a full load in the diaper. You're supposed to be scared, not disgusted! And that's if they notice it at all.
I've stuck with TS3 though. I didn't like the way TS3 sims looked at all, at first, but I've gotten good enough with the sliders I can easily make sims I'm happy with. With TS3, the better sims, better graphics, and open hood are enough that I hardly ever touch TS2, but I do still leave it installed in case I ever feel nostalgic. I probably spend most of my time making sims than actually playing anyway.

Yeah, I played The Sims 2 before The Sims 3. I even went back to the Sims 2 for a short while after we got the World Adventures expansion pack and I got blue lots of death. There are some things that I really wish they would bring back (long-term and short-term relationships are the first thing that come to mind), but now that The Sims series has finally gotten an open world and free object placement (and no, I don't count the cheat in 2 that let you do that), it would be pretty hard for me to go back to playing it most of the time. I still have it installed with all the expansion packs and stuff packs, because I do like to go back on occasion, though (Open For Business, Seasons, and Apartment Life are amazing and I really miss those in The Sims 3).
And as for what I find funny about The Sims 3? I find it funny that the game is so poorly coded, given it's developed by a massive team at a massive company.

I played TS2 from Dec 2007 until 2010. I've played TS3 since Launch Day 2009. I kept my TS2 installed because I couldn't part with my simmies and my game and for about 6 months I was playing both. Gradually TS2 got more and more neglected and a year after TS3 was out and with a couple of EP's, I uninstalled my beloved TS2. I still have all the discs and all my 3rd party CC just in case I want to go back and play it but I seriously doubt I can. You see TS3 had me at open neighbourhood, universal aging, and CAS/CASt. I can't give those up. In TS2 I had 12 GB of 3rd party CC and growing, a lot of recolours which outnumbered the meshes. With TS3, all I need are meshes and patterns and I'm good to go and to date, I've got 8GB of EA Store and 3rd party CC and growing. I know I can't go back.
Now is TS2 funnier than TS3? Heck ya. TS3 doesn't have that quirkiness, humour, charm, cutesyness and adorableness that my TS2 game had. I think EA needs to spend more time bringing all that back into TS3.

GnatGoSplat, I totally agree about the music. There's something totally off and weird about TS3 music. It gets more awful with each expansion pack.

I don't wan't the game to be funnier. I want it to have more content, and less glitches
The town mayor having a pillowfight with a tramp in a sewer is extremely funny. But I don't want it in my game, and I mod it to get rid of crap like that.

It seems The Sims 2 has less glitches than Sims 3....
The animals still act like weird animals and the most thing I hate about the Sims 3 is your sim does CROSS EYES!!!
Your sim eats a dinner and having a conversation with your family~ YOUR SIM DOES CROSS EYES!!!
Your sim sits down on the sofa and having a conversation with your friends ~ YOUR SIM DOES CROSS EYES!!!
Your sim socialise some sims ~ YOUR SIM DOES CROSS EYES!!!
Your sim walks like an idiot ~ YOUR SIM DOES CROSS EYES!!!
The Sims 2 never does these glitches, that's why I like Sims 2 =) But I have Sims 3 and I like it because of the graphics +)

I played TS2 for a couple of years before I caved and got TS3. One thing that bothers me with TS3 compared to TS2 is that everything feels so big. The furniture all seems so big and with the walls down it looks like a damn furniture store. I've made duplicate houses, houses that I first built in TS2, then built in TS3, idk it's hard to describe, but TS3 feels far more cramped. TS2 everything fits nicely with each other.
*babbles*
Also yeah, I hate the idle standing sims, it looks ridiculous.
Wait, was this meant to be a TS3 Vs. TS2 comparison? xD

I played TS1 a bit (I only had one of the collection packs), but TS2 came out not long after, so I converted to it. I do have TS3 (and all the EPs until now), but while I like the gameplay, I'm not too happy about the sims themselves. The animations are a bit awkward, and I can't quite get used to how the sims look. They need a serious amount of tweaking and mods to look anywhere near as good as my TS2 sims... I even played a little of sims city (the kid-version) when I was much younger. It was extrememly boring now that I think about it, but back then our computer couldn't run anything much heavier.
Nowadays I play sims 2 for storytelling, and sims 3 for fun when I'm too bored to do other things (or don't feel like spending an hour or thereabout on my TS2 game loading - my TS3 game is nearly CC-free except for some defaults and mods). Haven't touched sims 1 in ages, though (it was only installed on our old, now long-since binned computer). I also play a little sims social on Facebook.

I got into Sims 2 much later than most of you... I didn't get interested in Sims 2 until the Pets expansion came out. I loved Sims 2. But I definitely can't go back after the story progression and open neighborhood of Sims 3. Now I wonder how I played Sims 2... what did my Sims do all day besides up their skill level? Open for Business was a lot of fun -- so I guess my Sims in Sims 2 ran businesses a lot.

I started playing TS3 first. I had played console versions of the other games (the original Sims, Bustin' Out, Urbz, and Sims 2) before I got it for PC though.
I tried TS2 (and recently bought The Sims + all expansions at a flea market for $3) but I prefer the "realism" of TS3. I can make far better and more realistic looking sims and houses in TS3 than I can in TS2. TS2 is too cartoon-y for me.
The main reason I even got TS2 was for University. :P

I've played 1,2, & 3. At first, I had trouble with the sandbox concept, it still impresses me as slow and dull. The goal oriented aspects need to be fleshed out better, and less linear and repetitive, with greater variety. I wouldn't mind paying for expansions if they were more fully realized concepts. Pets is probably my favorite for S3, as it does alot to open the game up.
I think Bethesda does better with the open world concept than EA. With Oblivion there was never time to mod, because I loved playing it so much. The Sims I tend to mod more than play, and this becomes more true with each iteration of the game released. I've only played Skyrim for about 1/2 an hour so far...

I've played all three since I was a girl. Always had all the expansion packs too, though I think I'm passing on SHT. Never bought any stuff packs or store items though, I feel that they're a waste of money.
That said, I think I like all three in different ways. TS1 is very funny, TS2 has a lot to do, and TS3 feels more realistic (and I do love some realism in my sims, as much as I love Makin' Magic).

I know why the Sims 2 could be seen as better. There was something so fun about everything the new expansions added, and we didn't get some huge feature we didn't want like social networking integration and all of that bull. I think the only relatively dull expansion was Freetime because it only added hobbies. It was ts3's "Generations" expansion of the Sims 2 in my opinion. I remember having a lot of fun just taking a premade family in Pleasantview on vacation and having them sleep in tents or send lovers to the beach and stay in a hotel. Even the witches at the very end were super fun to play. Belladonna Cove actually had this hidden lot that was like a witches house that looked like it walked to its location because of the footprints that were painted on the grass. There were so many easter eggs that were fun to find, and I just had a really enjoyable time with ts2 altogether.
I also think that it had so much content and features by the time that the Sims 3 was finally released, that people were complaining and talking about how ts2 was just so much better when ts3 was just a base game very pale in comparison/

Let's see... I started playing the Sims on consoles because I didn't have a computer at the time, so whenever the first console version came out. About 8 years ago I went on a spree and bought all the original Sims games and expansions, which I still play occasionally. 5 years ago I got TS2 and only just stopped playing in favor of TS3.
I thought the first games were sweet and funny. I loved Vacation, I loved Makin' Magic. I loved all the creativity that TS2 spawned - I have well over 650 pieces of amazing CC saved to a dvd for reinstallation, from walls and floors to hair to clothes and skintones. I even tried to make my own clothes, none of which were fit for uploading here, lol. And it ran like a dream, unlike TS3.
I feel like TS3 needs a humor injection. It's not as funny or charming as the previous ones were. Some of the opportunities could be funnier. Even evil insane sims are kinda... boring. I find I have more fun recoloring the fugly EA clothes and building kicka** lots and houses. But boy do I love to fish. Not kidding - all my simmies are fishersims. But I still play TS3 all the time.

I've played sims 2 since I was 8 (maybe younger), I wasn't able to buy Sims 3 until a week ago. I love the Sims 3, but there are times when I will just go back to the Sims 2 for a while. I far prefer Sims 3, but Sims 2 has a few perks. For one you don't have to type out package names to look for Chuckie's sister. But since I just started Sims 3, a lot of problems are gone. Of course some things you just can't prevent.
