Corrupt Saved Game - Missing Town Buildings

Hi guys

I recently came across a problem playing the sims 3, and I wanted to post this problem and resolution as I couldnt find a solution anywhere online.

One night after my computer was multi-tasking, rending video from Sony Vegas, Watching Youtube, dual screens, Deamon tools running with a Virtual Drive, Sim3 running

I find that my save was extremely slow
May have crashed on save and exit

So I come back into my game the following day, playing inside the house totally oblivious to the fact half my city / town had dissapeared, I then saved my progress again

It was only then I realised my Sim Child had not been going to school and no social worker coming over, worried he would have no education and no graduation and thus no job, I checked his schooling and to my surprise it said there was no school in my city.

I checked my town view to find

No School
No Town Hall
No Neighbourhood houses (Except a few I was already dealing with)
No Gym
No Community Pool lots
No Science Lab
No Police Station
No Library
No Large Park
No Millitary Base
No Town Hall
No Cinema

However
I did have the following

Stadium
Bistro
Cafee
Office Block
Hospital
Spar
Shop
Thieves lot

Solution 1:
Go to My Documents / Electronic Arts / Sims 3 / Saves

Copy the files in the .backup folder to .sims3 folder and hey presto
Everything is restored

Unfortunatly not for me
Why?
I double saved, so my backup file was corrupted also

Is all hope lost?
No

Go into Town edit mode
If possible delete the blue squares where items have dissapeared
Click on edit lot / Buy / Build
Select Buildings / Community lots

Hey presto
The school buildings etc are there

So nice easy restore (as such)

I had seen on yahoo answers, Can I build a custom school?
Yes you can but not the way it was said on yahoo answers.

Go into Town Edit mode,
Create a lot
Click on the lot icon and change to community lot from residential
Select the type of lot it is "Accademy" for schools
Build your personalised school, which will allow you inside

Same applies to Hospitals, Police Stations and town halls

So my town is getting a revamp now :D

I would suggest you do more research on the function of rabbit holes and which are required for careers, education, entertainment, etc. before you go on a building frenzy and find yourself with a totally dysfunctional town. :beer:

For the record, "Academy" is the martial arts lot, NOT the school lot. Schools are rabbitholes (you know that premade building you plop down for some lots? That's a rabbithole). Set the lot to no visitors allowed.
