I noticed I have a lot of people in my town. I didn't know about clean templates when I made my new neighborhood, is there a way to clean all those files out or do I have to kill the townies myself?

I think you have to kill them yourself.

Naw you won't delete your family...At least I don't think. If you do that would be seriously bad o.o

Thanks Levera but I dont want to make another new neighborhood just trying to see if I can do something with the one I have :) Thinking about that if you kill them there files will still be there as you can't delete the tombstone's either. You should probably at least add notownieregen as it won't do anything about your existing ones but it will keep new ones from being regenerated. You should certainly add it if you do decide to kill them off or you will just get more townies.
I know at some point in the past I saw a discussion about a random sickness mod. It's been quite awhile and I wasn't interested in the mod myself so I don't remember where to find it. You might ask in the WCIF thread if there are any mods that allow mass killings.
Short of that simwardrobe has some guns and other devices that you can kill Sims with.
None of which sounds very pleasant but you have to kill them some way.
Of course you can also use Rodney's death creator and just transport chosen Sims to a lot and kill them that way. I have my undertaker do this on occasion when I just get so sick of seeing one of the townies that they just have to go.
Now that I think about it I think the name of the thread discussion was "thinning my Sim population" or something very close to that.

DON'T DO IT!
If you want to delete a character, here is the correct method:
http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,6205.0.html
You'll notice that you need to prepare your neighborhood for the deletion of a sim before you delete their character file. Otherwise, you leave invalid references to the sim throughout your neighborhood.

That is exactly the the thread I was thinking of! Thanks for looking it up for the OP. It has a lot of really creative ideas and links to some mods as well that should be very useful. I might have to have a bit of a re-read myself not that I have that much population to thin as of yet.

Oh man I'm pretty familiar with SimPE but that just looks uber complicated.
Eh oh well. I guess if it really bugs me enough I'll read it thoroughly and try to do it when I have a lot of time :) Of course I'll back up my game first!

I tired to find what was going to be well worked out with you. But I guess what I had found would have only corrupted your game, I apologize. I hope what Mootilda gave you helps...

Actually, once you do it, it's fairly straightforward but it is a bit of a fiddle to do for every sim you want to get rid of. If you are that bothered, how about building a nice cemetery?

I think I just might build a cemetery for the ugly townies :P The one I have now is mainly for my playable sims so I don't want to fill it up with sims I dont care for although if I use the cheat 'move_objects on' and just stack them all on top of each otehr will that be a problem? I guess I could just do that

I hope what Mootilda gave you helps...When installing empty templates, you can delete all of the character files because you've already replaced the neighborhood package with a new version which has no references to sims at all. Character files can only be deleted in conjunction with changes to the neighborhood package.

killing off townies....
well there is a good idea................
so, now that we are talking about killing the townies
how do you kill of someone that even the cowplant doesn't like ?
I play veronaville and one of the elders really pisses me off but I can't get him to die
and I only know the man because I made the mistake of wanting to see every sim in town once.(it was a great party for about 3 days)
the old fart is one of the founders of the city population btw. (he did not leave with the other sims)
so I started to try make him die
last time I tried to feed him to the plants his motives were all 100% green but still they didn't eat him
I used the Rodneys Death Creator on him all 9 kinds of kill bounce off of him like rain
I gave him the dead token, he only fainted. any normal sim dies before walking 3 sim-city-blocks from that one
he still lives after that.
the only thing it resulted in is, the game now knows I don't like to see the guy.
for those who want to know I talk about mr. Capp senior

That's definitely not standard game behavior. Have you considered putting him in prison?

I made a concentration camp for townies. Opened a retail business to attract them and developed a romantic relationship so they'd move in then sent them to a prison camp. They can stay alive in there but they spend most of the day at the gate waiting to get out or you can starve them to death which takes a few days or make them put on the noodlesooth to fry their heads and drop all their motives. Or just give them a tv to tinker with and get electrocuted.

not yet but he just jumps back to where I remove him from
so I don't think it will work
if I put him on an islolated roof with no stairs he just shows up inside again
but still it is worth a try

Inge's prison is designed to actually keep sims in prison so that they can't show up anywhere other than the prison lot.
You could also ban him, lot by lot, with TwoJeff's Visitor Controller.
