View Full Version : Best blogging website to use for a Sims story?

I wasn't sure what sub section to put this in but hopefully it'll be ok here, sorry if it isn't!

I'm considering making a Sims story blog but I have no idea what website to use.
I don't mind about how easy/hard to use it is, I can learn. But I want to use one that'll be able to have different parts/stories/chapters for different sims and preferably profiles for individual sims too. And a clear navigation page if possible, rather than just scrolling through random posts.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for any replies :)

A lot of people use livejournal.com.

At first, the (lack of) navigation bothered me, but an easy fix is to make a post that mimics a navigation bar (like an archive) and date it sometime in the future so that it always stays at the top of your page. You could get really fancy/creative with it, I've seen some pretty impressive ones... there's also the tag and/or calendar systems, but I don't think they're as useful. As for doing different profiles per sim, you could do that with normal posts and then link them in your archive, maybe link icons/"profile pics" instead of just using text links?

That's the only one that I know of really.. Any others that I've looked at were confusing/too plain/wanted you to pay for basic features.

I use, and really like, wordpress.
I find it easy to use, and I like the features - gallery of all uploaded pictures, whether they're in my posts or not; being able to create whatever pages I want, etc.
Blogspot is also very easy to use. It depends on what you want - it won't hurt any to make a few "test" blogs to see what you're comfortable with?

I like Blogspot. I looked at a few, but in the end chose Blogspot because it's Google owned, which gives certain benefits. You get a gigabyte of image storage, and the Picasa app, which is fantastic for fast, controlled image management, and image size control. A Google account also gets you quick access to 4shared with 20 GB, if you need a file server. You can also use Pictobrowser for slideshows, as it can direct access your images on your Picasa account on the web. And as long as your doing all things Google, it doesn't hurt to start things out with a fresh Gmail account for your new blog

The biggest drawback of using a blog(at least for me) is format control. You don't have the html options you would on a web site, although you can get around some of the limitations if your comfortable using dhtml.

Blogspot is the most popular, but I prefer Livejournal since it's better for communities.

As I recall, there are layouts on LiveJournal which will allow you to link to other blogs on the front page.

Ages ago I created blogs for some of my characters to write posts in "real-time." I think I had links to all the other blogs right there on the front page in the navigation sidebar; but if not, I know I had them on the info page.

As another poster said, you can always do a future-dated post with links to all the other related blogs so it's always at the top.

The other benefit for LJ is that it's just so user friendly and allows for very long posts. If you don't want that to show on your friends page, you can always do a link and cut so most of the post is behind a cut tag.

(Can you tell I really like LJ???) ;)

Thanks a lot everyone! :D
I'm still testing different ones (thanks for the suggestion Kayls42) but I think I'll go with Blogspot, it just feels smoother to use and looks more modern at a first glance. The popularity of it is a plus too, might be easier to get more viewers and such.
But if anyone else has any more suggestions I'll be glad of any as it'll be a while til I get going, I haven't finished modifying the world I'll use yet heh.

I read Blogspot legacies a lot and they seem a lot more organized and easy to navigate, so I'd go with wordpress or Blogspot. (:
