A few days ago I installed World Adventures (I installed Late Night first before WA, I was too lazy to update it properly), It was working fine except for the constant freezes during adventuring.
The next day I tried to open it up, and the screen went black, the mouse pointer, a spinning wait cursor.
I re-installed, also re-installed the custom content in one go and put the copied package files into the package folder, the same thing happens.
I figured out that it has something to do with the package file in the mod folder, when the package folder only has two package files, it opens up, but when it has twenty or more, the game does not respond.
So, how do I keep the package files and still open it up without it not responding?
Also, the same thing happens when I install custom content via launcher, the small box goes black and the pointer, a spinning wheel cursor.

Sims 3 - Game Problems
Please go through this FAQ and follow the instructions, doing each step in order and not skipping anything:

Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem
Most issues with the game can be resolved by following those steps.

Sims 3 - Incompatible CC
Every time you patch or install a new EP, most of your hacks will need to be updated or removed. If you are having any kind of problem and you've just patched or installed a new EP, remove all your custom content and delete your cache files (http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files). Then, unless the problem is specific to one sim or lot, make a new town and see if the issue occurs there too.

If, having done so, the issue is fixed, then you have some incompatible CC. Any hacks - things which change the game's behaviour - are likely suspects and should be updated or removed; things like objects, clothes, hairs etc are generally safe.

If the game loads with a couple of mods, but not with all of them, you have incompatible content. Confirm it by doing all 3 steps of the Game Problem FAQ, yet? The 3rd one, especially?

Then you can find the problem content and update that. Game Help:TS3 Finding Problem Custom Content

However, if after step#3 of the Game Problem FAQ you still get black screen and crashing, then do the Crashing Checklist (see my signature for link).
