View Full Version : Design Tool--Deleting Saved Textures

Early on, I started saving color changes to textures in the Design Tool interface. After a while, I realized that those saved textures had started slowing down the use of the Design Tool.

Every time I want to simply change a color or drag a texture to another object, the tool has to cycle through EVERY saved texture...woods and metals are the worst, since those have the most saves in my game.

I've learned to save recolored OBJECTS, rather than recolored textures, which I rarely go back and use again. I've been deleting the extra textures, one at a time, which takes forever and ever! Frustration!

Does anyone know how to simply remove all of my recolored texture saves at one time? In other words, is there a file I can open and edit, or something like that? Or is there a mod out there somewhere that will take care of this?

With the advent of Showtime and its patches, it seems like the Design Tool is taking even MORE time grinding through all the extra textures than it used to! It's gotten entirely ridiculous for most items--taking up to 2 minutes just to make a color change sometimes! Frustration!

If anyone knows something to help get rid of these saves that I no longer want, PLEASE let me know! Thank you!

Just delete Documents \Electronic Arts \The Sims 3 \userPresets.package.

Just delete Documents \Electronic Arts \The Sims 3 \userPresets.package.

If I do that, what OTHER presets get deleted?

Trying it now, with my userPresets.package file removed to a safe place...just in case.

OK...I have to save the item recolors I've made, but can do the important ones as I work. I'm recoloring a ton of small community lots in a secondary version of a new world (we're doing some seasonal versions at Neighborly Sims). But in just a few minutes, I've saved all the recolors I need, now that the texture recolors don't have 100 or more recolors to cycle through with every design change.

I decided to keep my original userPresets.package in a safe place...relabeled "userPresets-Before041712.package" in a new folder I will be backing up, now, when I back up things on a regular basis. This will assure me that I can stick an older file in place if needs be, to find something I can't match correctly in a different world. I'll probably never use the backups, but it's good to know they'll be there.

Thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate it. I was sure it must be something totally simple, but what that was has been eluding me for a long time. :gjob:

All of them- which was what you said you wanted. The userpresets file contains all custom outfits, objects recolours, pattern recolours etc., created by the CASt tool. ;)

No...I only wanted to get rid of the saved textures under the texture categories, in the design tool.

But that's OK. I rarely go back and use any of the saved objects or outfits, etc., that I use when designing any particular lot or world. I just need them temporarily, for the concentrated time of designing that one thing, generally speaking.

By saving my FULL presets file as a backup, if I realize that I really DO need something I saved a few months back, I can now take an extra few minutes and go back and find that thing.

Last night's designing process was awesomely better. I was able to recolor three small lots last night, in the time that it took me the night before, to recolor one floor of one small lot!

Thank you very much.
