If you have a dual core processor, newer laptop, it shouldn't produce any bad effects. I estimate, the older your computer, the less RAM memory it has. I estimate the old machines slow down more. Some people run all the packs with a big downloads folder. What is your system specifications? Do you have a dual core? Is it Windows XP , Windows 7, another operating system?

Meh like TortureTheNannies said as long as you have a decent comp it should be fine, I run all the EP's on a pretty bad laptop that doesn't even have a 2.0GHz + duel core processor and it runs fine.

EDIT: This is the comp I have. http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-B575-1450A5U-IdeaPad-E-Series-Processor/dp/B005DNC890

If that can run it on medium graphics flawlessly, almost any modern laptop can.

This will tell you whether your computer will run the EPs:
Game Help:System Requirements/MTS2 Recommendations

Looks like your graphics chip won't run anything more than University well.

I upgraded my video card for NL and that was fine for OFB too. My system is rather old; it was a 2005 integrated graphics before i installed the Radeon card. If i had free time it would play it.

60 USD can get you a ATI Radeon HD 4670. With the this card, you can run TS2 at an average of 40-50fps, and TS3 at an average of 30-35fps.

Of course, it isn't the best of cards. But if you're extremely tight on cash and are willing to use an ATI card, I'd recommend this card as a quick fix until you can get a better card.

the only thing that could be bad for the computer in case of the sims2 is if the machine can't handle the EP's system demands

I run the game on a system that has to shut down everything else just to run the game (yes, it is that old)
the only problem I did find is when my lot is too big and crowded with to many animations (not only from sims on this lot)
even the ones that we can't see because we are looking in an other direction or on an other floor
---this means for me, I shouldn't play with lots bigger then 4X3 because my system could fail on them---
if that problem occurs, you will get waning signs (not readable ones)
it starts with slowing down the simulation-clock toward "real-time" and, if not cured, below that speed.

to answer the other question:
my system only does not have the OFB and NL (because I didn't get those installed yet (having problems with getting them))
working under mansion and garden(SP) and having all other EPs does not slow me down one bit at all

Let me guess: Can You Run It? Not a good idea to depend on what that site says as the final word on what your computer can handle.

Laptop graphics are usually not upgradeable, and if you push it with the current graphics chip, you risk burning out the motherboard. http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Onboard_Graphics

Players on laptops need to realize that even if the game seems to look and run well at first, that doesn't mean the graphics chip is holding up well. Too often, by the time you begin to see problems with the game due to the graphics chip being overtaxed, the damage is already done.

In short, laptops that can safely take on Sims 2 are a whole lot more expensive than what the average laptop user gets, and Sims 2 is not suitable for budget laptops, netbooks, etc. (Even high-end laptops have to be watched closely for overheating.)

My two-cent advice: Buy whatever parts of the full Sims 2 game you don't already have while you can, but save installing them until you have a decent desktop machine on which to play them. Meantime, stick to what you already have installed on your laptop and/or consider the Sims Stories series of games - Life Stories, Pet Stories, Castaway Stories - that were made more with laptops in mind.
