Let's say that I hate other human beings. Is there any value in buying $50 worth of DRM Showtime if I'm not going to be asking any of the social features.
Also, how, exactly, does Simport work? Through Origin, or over a third party service like Facebook?

I haven't used simport once. There's all kinds of fun things to do with Showtime even if you don't use simport. Personally, I find the careers really fun. I'm not generally into active careers, but I've enjoyed the singer career a lot.
Simport works through thesims3.com. No origin or facebook involved.

I agree, I don't and won't touch Simport. The value added of the new (to TS3) interactive items, the new rabbitholes which, to me, have a more modern appearance than previous rabbitholes (outside of Townlife), and the careers have made Showtime worth the money.

Okay, so it would be worth it, even though I dislike everyone, you say? I'll have to thik about it then. I'm only worried about spending $50 on what's basically DRM, if you have to stay connected to the internet at all times or have to register the game to an account before being able to play half of it.
Speaking of which, do you have to log in with your sims3.com account to be able to use Simport features?

In order to use Simport, yes you have to log in.

Okay, thank you.
Since I'm probably not going to use Simport, I guess I won't need to worry about that.
If you're not using Simport stuff, does the game spam you until you do? Or try to do anything else to try to get you to log in and send your sims around places.

No, you can opt out of receiving further reminders to "sign in for the experience"
As for obtaining the "special content" for Simport achievements, you can use this http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=470934 from velocitygrass. Now you can remain unplugged without missing out on any of the content meant to be "achieved" by sending your sim off to god knows where, and strange people can do whatever they're sick, twisted minds can come up with to your performer.
BTW, has anyone sent a performer on tour come back pregnant yet?

Yep, with that mod, the only reminder that Simport exists is that sims will periodically get wishes to host a performer via Simport.

I hope there is some way to disable those particular wishes from appearing. :heyhey:

Why worry about that? You can "right click" them to dismiss them or entirely ignore them like I do.

I right click most of their wishes anyway. Between WA, LN, Gen, Pets, SHT, all they ever want, whenever they say Hello to someone, is to take their picture, form a group, have a pillow fight, and ask their sign. That's even after 3 trait incompatibilities pop up. I don't even pay attention anymore, I just see the icon and right click.

True, but that becomes a chore after awhile. I'd personally like it better if the wishes never appeared at all.

Alright thanks for all the answers. I ordered a copy the other day, because it was on sale on Amazon and I do like the performing arts aspects of EPs, even if they seem to take a back seat to *shudder* having to interact socially. That 'limited edition' Katy Perry version was going for the same price as the regular version, and let me say, that is just one mess of a cover. It's like it has no idea what it wants to be.

But... it has glitter! OMG sparklies!

Gah! Two subtitles? And It feels like they tried to reference their whole "Play with (real) Life" motto by having Katy singing with her SelfSim, but they look nothing alike so the effect doesn't work out and that dress that Sim Katy is wearing looks like it was shopped on by a ten year old sprucing up their myspace pictures. And so much GLITTER... D:

I was not going to buy it and it has now become my very very favorite.
The architecture in Starlight Shores, alone, is worth the price of the EP. And I freakin' love the jukebox songs.
I will never use simport... there's a mod here to get all the swag you would get, so why bother?
