View Full Version : Can a guid conflict be fixed in simpe?
8th May 2012, 12:04 AM
I know how to remove the file, I don't want to be rid of it, what I want to know is, can I give this conflicting piece of cc a new guid so that I can keep both the Maxis item and the cc item? I have the file, I just don't know what site they came from to check and see if it was a default or not. Can I tell by opening the files in simPE?
Edit: opening simpe found the site it came from, simsconnection. A site which I believe is now gone.

Yes, you can change the guid in SimPe.

Right, so ah... what do I have to do? That's why I'm asking. Is there a tutorial on this someplace?

First of all, make sure that you have the creator's permission if this is not something that will remain for your own personal use, and keep a safe copy of the original somewhere.
If this is a CAS item, you might prefer to use bodyshop to make a new project based on the original CC rather than waiting for SimPE to open. You don't need to change the CC once it's a new project, and it should automatically be given a new GUID. Probably in about half the time it would take in SimPE. (Especially as I'm not sure I know how to find a CAS GUID... I know that there was a tutorial on how to make clothing in SimPE, so I'm sure it's there somewhere, but a CAS part doesn't seem to have an "Object Data".)
Otherwise, open SImPE, (grab a good book to read while it opens) and then open Object Workshop. You have two options. Select "Open" (If you select "start", you will be reading some more of your book. ) Open your CC and select "Clone." Look at the top of the box and click "next" You will get to a page with a lot of options. You can probably leave them as they are, especially if this is the first time you have used it. (Although you may need to "make stand-alone object" ) Click Next again. Edit the description so that you can remember whose work it is, and click finish (where "Next" was.) Wait a minute while it gathers everything and puts it together for you. Once your new cloned file is open, find "Object Data" and click it. Make sure you have the Plugin View window open (at the bottom unless you moved it.) You will see a GUID. Since this is for personal use, you can just edit a couple of digits.

The item is a buffet table from a cruise ship set. I assumed since the site is closed that the creator isn't around to ask and that I didn't need to as it's only for personal use. I have the original Rar in a folder on my desktop as I nearly always keep Rars for the future in case a sites closes. The Rar is labelled SC-JanaCruiseShipBuffet. There are quite a few files inside that rar. I assume it will be the main file and then the ones labelled 2 and then 3 that need changing? There are three buffets in the set. One was designed to look like starters, the second like main courses and the third like deserts, so I am guessing those are the corresponding files.
I've never changed a guid before or even been in the object workshop area, but I'll give it a go. Thank you for your help.

Since the original is not working couldn't joeandsarah just change the guid without cloning? SimPE takes as long as bodyshop to open lol which is about 30-40 seconds.
I didn't know you could just change the digits without registering the object.

Since the original is not working
I'm not sure what you mean by not working. Do you mean because the Maxis buffet table (The one that came with base game) gets over written by the custom one? Right now I've pulled the custom one to my desktop so the original is working. I just like this custom one as it looks more like the kind of buffet you get at a restaurant and not a table.
Simpe does only take about a minute to open which isn't anything like my body shop-try an hour.

I thought you meant the guid is duplicated for two cc objects and the buffet doesn't work. Hence the semantic confusion. To rephrase you could overwrite the "original" cruise ship buffet as it is no longer required, instead of making a clone.

No it's overwriting the Maxis buffet table. I'm only guessing that the guid is duplicated actually. If the site it came from was open I would have checked, but itís gone. I've had a guid conflict before and I found and removed that in simpe. It's also possibly a default replacement but I doubt that as I'm always carful these days to make sure of what I am getting. Got tripped up with that tree swing replacement on here some years ago.
Because there are 10 files in there I opened the one that looked most likely, SC-JanaCruiseShipBuffet and clicked on Start under object workshop. ...Maybe I should have clicked Open instead? (dang I just read up and see that I should have done *slaps head*) I admit to having no idea what I am doing as I've never been in this section of simpe before.
Okay so I managed to find Clone and it's opened a page which is fairly blank. Apart from price saying 0 which I don't get as the buffet definitely had a price to it, there is nothing in Title or Description. Is that okay?

Let me try again. Ghost sdoj's instructions are to clone janacruiseship buffet, which will create two of the same files, and fix the guid on the duplicate. What will you do with the original? You'll delete it because it is useless to you. So i'm wondering why not skip the cloning bit and fix the guid on the original janacruiseship buffet file and overwrite it.

I see what you mean now. That sounds quite sensible, but as I have no idea what I am doing I am just following the directions. Maybe this is in case I mess it up-quite likely. But I have the Rar so it doesn't matter, I can always try again. What would you do?
There are four 'object data' listed in there so I clicked the top one and changed a couple of numbers on the orig. guid area. There were also other guid areas such as 'fullback' and 'diagonal'

I'd open the file, skip the cloning, click object data and uncheck update all mmats, change the guid and click update mmats. Save.

Well I've tried to follow Ghost sdoj directions now. Not sure if this will need more then that one file doing or not. I guess I'll see if that has changed anything when I pop the file in. If that doesn't work I'll try your instructions. Is changing the one file enough?

Maybe some are for the food. Objects placed on a diagonal are seperate meshes to perpendicular ones. I wouldn't know what fullback is. If they all have different guids to begin with you'd need to make them all different yes.
And all three objects will need to be changed if they all conflict.

It appears I gave the starters buffet a new name and price, but all three are still overwriting the Maxis one. I'll have to try again when the game isn't running.
