Is it possible for you to have different kinds of NPC's in different hoods? Say I wanted to have one Medieval hood with Medieval NPC's, but keep another hood the regular default NPC's. I can't seem to find this answer in any of the downloads, so if someone could help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Not with the same Downloads folder. If you want to play the other hood, you have to either remove the default replacements or I'd suggest separate Sims 2 folders in MyDocuments for different themes. You'd have to give them their own names and only rename the theme you want to play to Sims 2 but it would limit the amount of cc that has to load at once and so keep loading times down. :)

So pretty much just copy the Sims folder, put it elsewhere, and only change the files I need to and the two will run together? Or would they still be ran separately?

I'd give them their own names so you know what game it is (like "Sims 2 Medieval" or "Sims 2 Modern" or whatever you want). The game is only recorgnising the folder named "Sims 2" so you'd have to rename the folder you want to play.

I can't follow what you're saying there, but to reiterate what arathea said, you'd need to swap your default replacement NPC files in or out, depending on which neighborhood you were playing.

A much better way to do this, though, would be to use this program (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=250555) to create a completely separate game with its own Downloads folder. Once set up, you wouldn't need to swap files at all.

If you can't use the AGS (it's not compatible with later compilation packs or download versions of the game), another alternative would be to remove your The Sims 2 folder (the one in My Documents\EA GAMES), then load the game and let it generate a fresh The Sims 2 folder. Then you'd have two sets of user files. One set would be for your normal game. In the other set, you'd delete whatever neighborhoods you don't plan to use, put your custom neighborhood in, then set up the Downloads folder with your special themed CC. Swap the user files in and out depending on which you want to play in a given session. (All file swapping should be done while the game is NOT loaded.)
