I really need help. I know it is against the rules to make a helpthread. But the swedish sims site is down and i can't find any solution to my problem in the FAQ/Helpcenter.

When i download something from this site who is a .rar file Windows Media Center wants to open it. And i can't uninstall the program? Im trying to make winrar handle the file but it just don't work. When it is a .zip it works, not else :!:

What if you right click on the .rar file and choose a default program to open it with. Maybe for whatever reason it has WMC as a default for .rar?

Right click on the file and choose 'open with' - choose the programme you want - you can make the option permanent in the menu that pops up. You might find something like 7-zip better though which you can use for both zips and rars (and several other types of file).

Open winrar. Go to settings, then integration. Check the files you want winrar to open.

Note: I don't have winrar, I use 7-zip - it's free and works wonderfully. But that is just what a quick google search pulled up.

Thanks for trying to help. But it does still not work. 7-zip you say? Is it easy to use? Could you give me the link for download? :)

Did you choose the browse option to select the programme you want? Anyway, Liv's suggestion seems perhaps more direct.

Did you choose the browse option to select the programme you want? Anyway, Liv's suggestion seems perhaps more direct. Well first it showed up when the computer was like: what the hell is this? It gave me some advise of what i should open it with. Winrar was not there and i wrote on search for programs: winrar. My stupid computer ignores me and opens Windows Media Center :gjob:

Liv Lukas, how can i extract the file now to 7zip? It only wants to open it in wmc and even if i click on left button on mouse nothing helps

There's this program I use sometimes for uncommon archive files (like certain .CAB files). It's called "Universal Extractor". Their website is here (http://legroom.net/software/uniextract).

It's a free program, no fees, no ads, etc. Download from the "UniExtract Installer (5.3 MB)" link, then install the program. Apparently there's a note that goes as follows for those with virus scanners:

"Note: If you download Universal Extractor from one of the official links above, it is not infected with a virus. If your anti-virus software tells you otherwise, please see this forum post for details."

I'm guessing that it causes false positives for some scanners. There hasn't been anything unusual since I've installed the program again tonight (uninstalled it, then installed it again to see what the installation process looks like. They don't have an option for Swedish language).

Afterwards, begin the program. It will ask you which archive file to extract, then it will ask which folder you want the files to go into. That should work in case the RAR file is abnormal (e.g. not a real RAR file, but some other extension).

You should have to navigate to the programme location and click on the exe file.

Anyway, what you could try is opening 7-zip and then opening the file itself from inside the 7-zip programme.
