View Full Version : Expensive chairs block Sims

I had a house where my Sims made enough money that I started to up grade their furniture. Immediately after I put a new table and chairs in their dining room they started getting stuck between the chairs when they got up after eating. I never had that problem before so I was bewildered. I had to move the chair every time so they could get out. I finally put back the old chairs and the problem disappeared. They did not have a very high comfort rating so I tried putting in chairs that were still inexpensive but with higher comfort (they were custom). No problem with them either. I just can't upgrade the dining room chairs to a more expensive ones! What gives?

Were these custom chairs or Maxis? And you're quite sure they're dining chairs?
Try it with a couple different kinds of expensive chairs and see if it's this specific chair, what the cut-off price seems to be, etc.

Does it happen per chance to be the chairs from Mission style collection that came with Open for Business, if I'm not mistaken? Because I noticed on multiple times that my Sims get stuck between the Mission chairs when there was no problem with other chairs placed before on the same spots. I like those chairs (the whole collection, actually) but because of stuck problems don't use them anymore.
I can't find the pictures of those chairs, but they come from this collection http://thumbs2.modthesims.info/img/1/9/5/1/3/3/8/MTS2_S.R._Home_Designs_797924_Create_A_Sim.jpg

The original chairs were maxis. (I think--but will check.) The chairs with a higher comfort but still inexpensive were custom. I made sure all were dining chairs. I did notice with a custom lot that I downloaded that had arm chairs at the chess table instead that they could not be used. I will do as you suggest and see for sure. Thank you.

Lots of times my Sims get stuck with the Mission dining table and chairs. I see I'm not the only one with issues with the Mission set....

I had that happen too, sometimes, its because some one is blocking the way out from between the chair, and sometimes, its because of the mission chairs. I wonder if there is a fix for it at MATY...

There are two maxis chairs that aren't completely routable around. (Sometimes my phrasing amazes me...) Anyway, I hope you understand what i meant by that akward phrase.
If you try to put a table and chairs in an enclosed space (let's say, 1 tile table with 4 chairs in a 3x3 area enclosed by walls on three sides) the Sims won't be able to reach the three chairs next to the walls.
Those chairs are: one from NL (my game isn't loaded atm so I can't name it, but it is a restaurant chair ironically) and the chair from OFB, the one matching those massive sofas and armchairs that come in green, gold, brown. etc.
ETA: Mission chair, right. The one from OFB.
I suppose any chairs cloned from those two will present same routing problem. I haven't seen a fix for them, so if anyone has, I'd too be grateful. I like that NL chair, if the Mission one is a bit too bulky for my tastes.

Does anyone know if there's a fix for those Mission chairs? I'm glad to know it's not just me, but that makes it seem more likely that there would be a hack....

I have been doing as Pen Griffin suggested. It has been slow going and I removed (from my game) one custom medieval chair because it had the weirdest animations. Would the Contorto Dining Chair be the restaurant chair Simsica mentioned? While my Sims have no problem reaching any of the chairs that is definately one of the ones they get stuck between. It does seem to be certain chairs rather than price oriented. Thank you all for your replies. They have been most helpful. Thank you all.

You don't need to throw out the chairs, cause there is a sort of a fix for the situation. There is a hacked object that allows routing around any object placed on it. Go to downloads section and type "walk through" in the search and you'll find it.
