View Full Version : Community lot issue?

(I honestly wasn't sure what to put for a category, so if it's wrong I apologize.)

Something's been up when I've been going to Community lots. On occasion, I'll get a "The Sims 2 has crashed the application will terminate" error, usually signaled with a bit of lag in the lot.

However tonight I sent a Sim to a lot with no problems. I was able to send her to two different lots, interact with townies and even buy stuff. I did have boolprop testingcheats on when I visited the lot, but I don't think that made a difference.

So maybe my community lots are just temperamental and work when they want? Or maybe it's because I just had a single sim? I'm not sure what to make of this.

Oh and the CC I have installed (in case anyone was curious and might know if any of them causes the crashes):

- Several hair meshes and recolors from both MTS and Garden of Shadows (I can link you.)
- Pokemon outfits from MTS
- Homestuck trolls - Their hair, horns, outfits and skintone from Livejournal
- Mod that turns off autonomous season games (Play catch, Snowball fight, Water balloon fight) from MTS
- Motorcycle vehicle from MTS
- Furry artist career from MTS

Also how does one go about getting system specs? If I need to post them I will. I can also post logs from my Sims 2 folder if it helps.

Thanks for any help!

It's difficult to say whether your problem is hardware or software. However, it's unlikely that your community lots are temperamental. Have you done the Game_Help:Game_Problem FAQ? If not, you should at least do everything except possibly reinstall your games. We can have you do that after we check your hardware, if it's necessary.

Here's how to provide your system specs:
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Specs

You might also be having an overheating problem. That can often be intermittent, depending on the ambient temperature and how long you've been playing. To determine whether or not overheating is a cause of your problem, please follow these steps:

First, download and install the HWMonitor:
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

Run the program - you should see lots of numbers; if you don't know what any of them mean, don't worry - you don't have to. :)

With HWMonitor running, use your computer normally for twenty or thirty minutes - no games, just browsing the web, using IM, playing minesweeper etc - and at the end of the twenty or thirty minutes, take a screenshot of the HWMonitor window and save it.

Then do the same again, keeping HWMonitor open, while you play Sims for twenty to thirty minutes. If your game is crashing before the thirty minutes is up, just play until it crashes. If your computer is freezing, shutting down, or restarting itself, play for as long as you think you can before the freeze/shutdown/reboot, then quit the game. Take another screenshot of the HWMonitor window.

Finally, attach both screenshots to a post in this thread - you can upload them to photobucket or tinypic etc, or you can hit "Go Advanced" in the Quick Reply box and use manage attachments to upload them to MTS.

I doubt it's an overheating issue though. I can play on residential lots for hours without any problems. (Though the ground likes to glitch - Like the grass outside the lot suddenly gains the appearance of a Sims hair or something, though this only lasts a minute or so.)

This only happens on Community lots. Although I'm still confused as to why it worked one time, and crashed another.

Intermittent problems can be caused by hardware, software, or overheating. Do the FAQs.

It might be a bad piece of CC. If a townie that has some bad CC on them enters a lot, that could cause it to crash. You should definitely do the game problem FAQ.

Well I just deleted some content that wasn't showing up in game, along with the autonomous Seasons hack (the one that disables the water balloon/play catch/etc) and see if it helps.

I'll keep you guys posted!

It really makes sense to move all of your CC and delete your caches first. That way, you know whether it's CC. This makes a lot more sense than speculating that it may be CC and removing individual pieces.

If you approach the problem scientifically, testing and ruling out various things, you're likely to find the problem quicker and with less actual work. In other words, try following the Game Problem FAQ.

Also, provide us with your system specs and heat levels. That will give people here a chance to look them over while you're doing the game problem FAQ.

Well I sent my Sims (And most of them have CC equipped.) to 2 community lots after deleting the Seasons hack, and I had no crashes. I suspect this hack might have been the issue.

I'll say this can be closed for now, I'll repost if I have any further issues.
